Bought it for my son. He likes retro games. Perfect pocket size. He plays it in between college classes.

I bought one of these 2 months ago and it worked up till last week. There are very few retro handhelds that meet my needs, so my best option was to give this model another chance. This time it didn't work at all. Internet search shows this is a common problem caused by the cheap SD cards this company uses. Anbernic must know of this issue, as they provide links on their site to download the stock os. Unfortunately, the files you end up with are corrupted. Worse, they come from a site that I've just learned may be a security risk. I've wasted many hours trying to fix their faulty product for them, and all I have to show for it is a computer that might have a virus.

First time charging the device. It will not charge. When you plug it in it'll charge for a minute and then stop. This thing is a complete brick now

I ordered this as I have the original rg35xx and wanted something with horizontal controls and analog sticks. This has the same size screen as the original but seems to have better saturation. It is also a bit faster and can play games on later systems much better than the original. Overall, if your upgrading or never had a pocket-sized emulation system before, this is a great option!!

Pros: Many games, color, ability to add/remove more games and use the hardware in other ways. Small enough to throw in your pocket and have to kill time while waiting.Cons: The overall size of the unit is too compact for my hands to get comfortable and use the top triggers. The screen is small and the font used is very small making it hard to read for my old eyes. There was some hitching on a few of the games I played, and the upright arcade games seemed to have issues with the controls.For the price, I think this might not be the best value. If the unit was about 30% larger overall and had slightly better specs, it would be outstanding. But as it is, I would be much more comfortable with this at 49.00 vs 89.00.

As soon as I turned it on and started trying to set the time I noticed the left and up buttons were broken, seemed like it would be a nice system but sadly I never got a chance to try any of the games out

I have had the chance to try several of the rg35xxh handhelds and this one comes with I believe the newest version of the operating system. The other units I tried had a December 2023 firmware on them and this has a January 2024 firmware on it. This update corrected some minor issues that I immediately noticed. There is now a better menu when you exit a game that gives you your save options and several other options pertaining to the game you are playing. The prior version of firmware just exited the game back to the game selection menu in the console you had selected. The new version is much more user friendly. Also some games that did not work properly now do work properly one of which is Gran Turismo on the ps1. On the old firmware you would just get a black screen after you selected the track you wanted and that was it. Now the game works 100%. This is a nice handheld and that firmware update shows me anbernic is going to keep improving the system if needs arise. This has a nice bright vibrant screen with good viewing angles. The d-pad works well. A B X Y buttons all work fine. The shoulder buttons work properly with no rattling. It has good stereo sound thanks to having two speakers which are located on the bottom lip which is nice because alot of handhelds like to put them on the back which makes the sound muffled especially if your fingers lay over the speakers. This comes with a great selection of games with alot of well known titles but no "mario" games which I know some people always ask about. Lots of Zelda, Castlevania, Final Fantasy and Pokémon games though. All of the different consoles represented on here work well. There are even a couple extra consoles listed under the retroarch folder that aren't listed under the game room folder. Under the retroarch folder you will find it has open bor, ports, Pico 8, Atomiswave (play "Dolphin Blue" you will love it) and Naomi systems on it. The build quality of this is nice. Good solid plastic that has just a little texture for a solid grip. Anyone with a rg35xx will really appreciate the new horizontal version not to mention the performance upgrades. All in all an excellent value for a no fuss turn on and play game system.

The handheld build quality is amazing. That being said, it didn’t boot up. It just stays on the boot logo and never starts. I have another handheld that is almost identical to this. So I swapped the SD card from it and boom, it booted right up. This is easily 5 stars if they replace my as card with one that works. I may try to format it and copy everything from my other card just to see if that will work. Either way I think I just got a dud card as I was able to play with my other game card and it worked perfectly.
