How tall is the cooking basket?

There is a removable raised tray inside to keep foot out of any drippings and provide circulation. With the tray in, the basket has 3 inches of room to the top. If the tray is not installed, it adds another inch for a total of 4 inches of height.

Can you cook with only 1 side at a tims?

Yes you can, just pick the Zone (side) you want to cook on. You will see a Zone 1 button on the left, and a Zone 2 button on the right.
