Great for sealing plywood
Bought this to seal the plywood sheets I was using for a shed floor and it worked really well. Application was very easy. The varnish wasn’t overly thick, so I was able to apply it with a roller without any problems and get good coverage across the sheets. It also dried quickly, which made the whole job much easier. Really pleased with how easy it was to work with and it did exactly what I needed it for.

Great for painting on acrylic painted wooden toy train for toddler.
Great so far. I used it on a homemade wooden train for my toddler, which I’d painted with acrylic paints. I made sure to leave plenty of time for the acrylic to dry, then applied three coats according to the varnish instructions. It dried to a nice hard finish and is now protecting the acrylic paint from rubbing off. You can’t even tell it’s been coated with varnish—it looks just like it did with only the acrylic paint. The colours still look great. I also only needed the smallest amount, so I wish they made even smaller tins; this one will last a long time! I also looked into whether it was suitable for children’s toys. ChatGPT found multiple retailer listings stating that it conforms to BS EN 71 Part 3 (Toy Safety), but it could not verify that claim from any official Rustins technical documentation. If toy safety certification is important to you, I’d recommend doing your own checks too.

Plenty of coverage for the size of the tin, nice dark finish
The little tin goes further than I thought it would. Applying successive coats as recommended on the tin, I could see the timber getting darker, and three coats looks good.

Great product! Very smooth texture and easy to apply. And each coat was completely dry within 10-15 minutes. I chose the satin finish and the results were as promised. Very low odor and water soluble, so clean up with a breeze.
