In 1967, when still-teenaged keyboardist Steve Winwood left the Spencer Davis Group (for whom he'd sung lead on hits like "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man") to start a new band with guitarist Dave Mason, few observers thought their idea of blending pop, rock, and jazz would work. Immediately, though, Traffic scored giant hits with Winwood's east-meets-west "Paper Sun" and Mason's acid-jazzy "Hole in My Shoe". Between those songs, the smoking-guitar driven title track, the swinging instrumental "Giving to You" and the haunting ballad, "No Face, No Name, No Number", Traffic's debut established both players as elite members of the new guard of late 60s British rock. --Billy Altman Brilliant original UK 10 track debut album remastered in stereo PLUS entire original US 12 track version remastered (aka "Heaven Is In Your Mind.") in mono! Review: Good Early Traffic - This is a good purchase as well as getting the original Mr Fantasy album, at last on vinyl again this edition also includes singles and B sides from the period. Paper Sun, Hole in my shoe and Here we go round the mulberry bush. The disc cover states it is licensed from Universal Music Russia with the actual disc manufactured in the EU. The vinyl is flat and of good quality. Good to hear these songs on vinyl again taking me back to those heady days of the 60's. A good purchase and would recommend to any traffic fan, though the original British album has also now been released on vinyl separately from the boxed set. Review: Utterly awesome album and this version sounds lovely. - This is the Island Masters version and I prefer the sound on it to the later remastered version that I also own (that has more bass, but sounds less natural IMO. Though I keep it for the bonus tracks.) If you want a great version of this criminally underrated album at a steal, then go for this. 1967 was (I'm sure many would agree) a remarkable year for albums and why this doesn't get talked about, I really can't understand. Most people say this and John Barleycorn Must Die are the best Traffic albums and I totally agree; very addictive stuff from my favourite band of the moment.

Good album
Good first outing for Traffic and has some of my favourite tunes on it including the title track. Most fans may see this album as simply a taster of things to come but I think you can hear more of an innocence in this piece and that's what makes it good. The extra bits after the original album tracks are alright but nothing special. Well worth a listen and several tracks may grow on you...

Terrific Traffic at their best
This Album was after all at the time a bit of fun but I think by default it turned into a work of art. "No Face ,No Name ,No Number" is an excellent track IMHO. "Dear Mr Fantasy" is another gem, nothing not to like about this, get it and dive into yesterday in the room of percussion. Actually that's from the group Kaleidoscope which is much in the same vein of Psychedelia, a chef that likes music!.

Excellent album and the best version
In a few short words... a cracking debut album, and mono is the only way to hear this album. I originally owned the mono vinyl and that was getting a little battle-worn through decades of playing. I recently sold it to a collector and used part of the proceeds to replace it with this marvellous Japanese mono CD issue. Go and find one (it is also housed in a replica cover to the original vinyl, real nice).

Superb debut album
Superb debut album from Traffic featuring the original 4 piece line-up of Stevie Winwood, Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood and Dave Mason. Strong running order with the likes of 'Heaven Is In My Mind', Dear Mr. Fantasy, 'Desire', 'Coloured Rain' and the lovely 'No Face, No Name, No Number' all worthy of mention here. Buy this and follow-up releases 'Traffic' and 'John Barleycorn Must Die' and treat yourself to the sound of one of Britain's best bands of the period 1967-1970.

Bra ljud, mycket musik

Great Early Stuff from Traffic
Early stuff from Winwood and Company. The album includes the classic "Dear Mr Fantasy". The album is a little trippy as a lot of 60s stuff was.

"Mr. Fantasy" UK Version Sounds Great on CD!!
I like the UK version of "Mr Fantasy", but I also like the songs, "Paper Sun", "Hole In My Shoe" and "Smiling Phases" which originally were not on the UK version. The CD version has the complete stereo album of the UK recording and the mono version of the US album. As I have read from the other reviews here, the download version did not sound very good. I made the same mistake of purchasing the download version, but later on purchased both the US stereo version of "Heaven Is In Your Mind" and then the UK version of "Mr. Fantasy" on CD. Overall I like both versions of the album and am happy to have them in my music library. Purists tend to like the mono version better. It all depends on your preference. Now as far as the actual overall project, it is a psychadelic masterpiece. Much of the psychadelic music has gone into obscurity, but this album has not. Steve Winwood's voice really stands out in this recording. The phase shifting effects in the song Mr. Fantasy was a "far out" spacey. The 4th and 5th dimensions were definitely achieved in this recording. "Heaven is In Your Mind" is my second favorite track on the album. I like the studio wizardry in this song, especially in the stereo version with ht vocals whirling across the sound stage from the right chanel to the left. I like the extra percussion in "The Dealer". It comes out very clear in the mono mix as well. I would recommend buying both the UK and US versions on CD or vinyl. It is well worth the listening experience.
