We measure the hydrogen and methane in your exhaled air. Depending on the severity of the intolerance, the lactose is not or only insufficiently split by the digestive enzyme lactase. The lactase then reaches the lower section of the intestine and serves as a nutrient for the bacteria there. This produces large quantities of gases (hydrogen, methane, carbon dioxide) and fatty acids. Carbon dioxide is transported away through the intestines, hydrogen and methane is exhaled through the lungs and thus measurable for us.

Excellent comprehensive test with fast results
The test arrived quickly. It has detailed instructions at every stage, but I didn't find them difficult to follow. Once my samples had been received at the lab, my results arrived within three hours. The report is comprehensive and includes advice and recommendations to help manage symptoms.I found the test reassuring in that it confirmed my suspicions and I now have a path I can follow to avoid unexpected flare-ups. I am very impressed and would not hesitate to recommend.

It’s really expensive for what it isVery complicatedYou drink solution and then send off results on a set day and they email results£70 and I’m not convinced the results are correct so I wish I had gone to the Dr for this

Life saver
I was really struggling with my diet for a couple of years to try to narrow down what was causing my gut problems. I suspected lactose intolerance for some time and this kit confirmed it. It has been a lifesaver now I can plan my diet and know what to eliminate or avoid. Well worth the money! Also bought some lactase tablets for when I know I'm having anything with dairy.
