Excellent drainage and grit levels – My succulents love it!
I’ve tried many different brands, but the Westland Cacti & Succulent mix is definitely one of the best. The consistency is spot on: it’s loose, gritty, and contains just the right amount of sand and perlite to ensure excellent drainage. Succulents are prone to root rot if the soil stays too damp, but this mix dries out beautifully between waterings. I’ve repotted three of my Echeverias and a Jade plant using this, and they have already started showing new growth. It’s a high-quality, airy mix that saves you the trouble of mixing your own. Highly recommended for any indoor plant lover!

No more root rot!
Composition & Texture: Unlike regular dense potting soil, this mix is wonderfully gritty, loose and open – blended with plenty of perlite, coarse sand and just the right amount of organic material. It feels light and airy straight out of the bag, with no heavy clumps or sticky peat‑like chunks at all. It mimics the rocky, sandy ground cacti naturally grow in perfectly. Drainage & Aeration: This is the best part – water flows right through it within seconds, never pooling or turning soggy. It dries out quickly after watering, exactly what cacti need, and keeps plenty of air pockets around roots so they can breathe freely. I’ve had zero sign of root rot since switching to this, which was a constant worry with standard soil. Performance & Growth: Repotting was easy; it holds its shape well and supports the plant firmly without compacting down over time. My collection – from mammillaria to echeveria – has settled beautifully, put out fresh new growth quickly, and looks far healthier than before. It has just enough gentle nutrients to feed them without encouraging soft, weak growth. Practicality: Comes ready‑to‑use straight from the bag – no extra mixing or additives needed. It doesn’t smell unpleasant, doesn’t attract gnats easily, and stays loose year‑round. Works equally well for indoor pots, outdoor planters or succulents too. Minor note: It’s quite light so a little goes less far volume‑wise than heavier soil, but it’s worth every penny. Verdict: Exactly the right balance of drainage, aeration and structure. Absolute essential for happy cacti – brilliant quality and great value. Highly recommended!

Plants doing well on them!
Nice quality soil, i added extra perlite but the soil as it came was loose and airy enough. Not a whole lot in the bag, but sufficient if you don’t have a whole lot of succulents/cacti. Wish they did bigger bags! My plants have grown well and no issues with fungus gnats. Will continue using this brand! ———————————— My Rating System ———————————— *opinions are my own and based on my own experiences and preferences* 1 Star : Extremely poor quality product. Excellent Drainage and Great for Healthy Cacti and Succulents
The Westland Cacti & Succulent Potting Mix (4L) is specially formulated to provide optimal drainage and aeration, essential for healthy succulent and cactus growth. This peat-free mix contains added grit, sand, and Seramis® clay granules, which retain water and nutrients while preventing overwatering and root rot. The enrichment with zinc complex promotes faster root development and boosts overall plant resilience. Users appreciate its light, gritty texture that mimics natural desert soil, making repotting easier and encouraging strong, healthy roots. It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use and works well for a wide variety of drought-loving plants like Aloe Vera, Echeveria, and Crassula. Overall, this mix offers a balanced blend of nutrition and drainage, highly recommended for succulent and cactus enthusiasts who want their plants to thrive.

Fabulous Cacti compost
I bought this 4L bag for £5 as I desperately needed to repot my cacti and succulents after a few years. I liked that it was a handy, smaller sized bag as due to disability I struggle with holding/ managing heavier loads. Having never bought cacti compost before I wasn't sure what to expect tbh. I had read recently what was required in a garden magazine and the bag displayed all the needs plus seramis for hydration. Originally I had potted the cacti in normal multi purpose compost, what a bad idea. They had failed to grow or thrive and on removing the compost had just collected and stuck around the roots so tightly, it was as dry as old bones. Opening this new cacti compost I immediately saw there was a different mix of ingredients to help with drainage and hydration. There wasn't too much grit and large stones, the compost element was fluffy and dark which I feel is a good sign. The texture felt nice to handle and had a pleasant soil healthy smell. Thinking I wouldn't have enough I bought another bag of a different well known cacti compost from the local garden centre while I was there one day as a back up. I did have to end up using it as I ran out of this first one, I had more pots than I realised. Comparing the two - the one off amazon was by far the winner! The back up bag was bloody awful and I have binned it, a whole 8L bag!! For a fiver, im very pleased with the amount of potting mix, size of the bag and feel it is good value for my money. I reported probably 4 medium/ large sized pots before I ran out. Obviously it will depend on your pot sizes. The price has since gone up by about £1.50, which still in my opinion isn't too expensive especially as I'm pleased with the quality compared to another well known brand. I will be buying more when I need it that's for sure. My plants seem happier, it's only been a few days so I'm probably imagining it and willing them to be better really, haha.

Excellent Cacti Potting Mix for Healthy, Fast-Growing Plants
I've been using this cactus potting mix for several plants over the past few months, and it’s been fantastic. The photo shows a plant I propagated from a cutting a couple of months ago—it's still healthy and growing strong, even through the colder months. The mix drains well, yet retains just the right amount of moisture. I keep the plant near a window where it gets plenty of morning and afternoon sun, and it absolutely thrives there. No issues whatsoever with pests or mold. What impresses me most is how well this mix supports growth—my cacti have been thriving faster and healthier than ever. It’s even worked wonders for some of my other houseplants, making it a great all-around choice. Highly recommended!

Best soil ever
I would highly recommend. It is fast draining and does not retain water for too long. I’ve started getting a lot more Westland stuff.

Great results with cacti and succulent arrangements!
This is my second time purchasing this potting mix for my cacti and succulents as they have grown so well in this soil. The price is reasonable for the quantity as you get a good amount in the bag. As you can see, I have made some lovely cacti and succulent arrangements using this potting mix.
