Does this control both hot water and heating or is it just the heating?

It could control the heating & hot water BUT not independently.
In my opinion it works best just controlling the heating. I have a 2nd control unit that used to control the heating & hot water with a room thermostat.
The Drayton 123042 Digistat replaces the thermostat and the heating side of the main controller is set to permanently on so this unit controls the heating and the original unit controls the hot water.

Sorry don’t know but bear in mind that the receiver can only be paired to one thermostat and is normally sold with the receiver

I have a new vaillant boiler with an unvented hot water tank, can i use the drayton 1234042 digit stat?  is this wireless?

Hi, this is a wireless thermostat kit, you get both the controller and receiver. Assuming you have a combi boiler (heats both hot water and central heating) then it should work. Be aware though that it's not a conventional timer so you will need to set the central heating to continus on your boiler and use the controller to set your minimum temperature throughout the day. It has several time zones during the day, so for example you could set the heating to come on in the morning during the week at say 20 for a couple of hours then set the temperature to say 15 for however long you feel nessary and put it back to 20 in the evening. It also has a separate time zone programme for the weekends.
