Well Pleased
It has heft, you feel its quality. It’s well made too. All moveable parts move smoothly and precisely. It’s not too big or small - just right. Often zoom lenses vary in picture quality at various lengths and edges can suffer a lot. You need to work out a path of usage. I must have struck gold as this lens has no weak spots. It’s consistent throughout its range. The 24-105mm is ideal for walkabout and general photography. The f4 loses a bit of bokeh in portraits but f4 is good enough. F1.2 or 8 would be better but they tend to be primes. No, the 24-105mm f4 has wider usage and will get more shots because of it. I got mine at a good price at Amazon. Great value for money. Will last many years. I’m currently using it on a Sony A7C ii. I have a Nikon system using Z7ii and Z lenses. I intend to transfer to Sony. My other stuff is now too heavy. I want small and compact. This Sony fits the bill.

Great, versatile all-rounder
Have previously used 24-70 f2.8 sigma which is a fantastic lens. Sold my gear 2 years ago and rebought the a7iv very recently. Didn't have the cash for the sigma and read some great reviews for this lens. Gave it a shot and wasn't disappointed. It doesn't have the f2.8 shallow dof but with some creativity with its 105mm reach you can get very creative and near f2.8 background. Great size, great in low light. Covers portrait well and is a superb walkaround lens. Great sharpness, weight, silent af and overall a great performance lens. If it was f2.8 it would be huge but it's well balanced and a solid build with weather sealing. Would highly recommend this "kit" lens

excellent versatile lens - perfect for walk around
This is as superb lends for the A7 range. It is possibly the best walk around lens that Sony offer - at around 650g it is light enough to carry around all day, and with the 24-105 zoom range it offers wide angle to telephoto capability. Perfect for use as a travel lens, when we can do that again! The constant F4 allows for use in fairly low light, the autofocus with a Sony A7iii is fast and accurate and i am delighted with image sharpness thought the focal range. The background blurring is pleasant, and can be easily adjusted, of course, through changing the aperture on the camera to give more detailed background should you wish This is a G lens, so the build quality and optics are high. It comes with a focus hold button, and a useful faux leather case

Great image quality, seemingly poor dust sealing
On the whole this is a really good lens with excellent image quality, good image stabilisation and a useful zoom range, in a relatively small package. It's not the lightest lens going, but the good build quality surely accounts for some of the weight. Used on an A7IV, any image defects seem to be mostly down to the camera's grain at higher ISOs and not due to the lens itself, with the image stabilisation working really well even in lower light levels. I don't see any fringing across the zoom and aperture ranges, but as with many lenses the mid aperture range does seem to be the sweet spot. The only reason this lens doesn't get full marks is because of its dust sealing, which is poorer than I'd expect. Putting the lens on a new camera, and not taking it off, resulted in various dust specs appearing only a few days after, and more appearing almost each time I use it. If the camera or lens were old, I'd put it down to ingress when changing lenses, but on new kit this shouldn't have been a possibility. I can only assume that it's down to the lens breathing when changing zoom.

Fantastic lens
Fantastic travel lens that covers a wide zoom range and is rarely off my camera (A7Riii). The picture quality from this is great and perfect for my needs as someone who likes to travel and take lovely photos to go on the wall and in photobooks.

Great all-rounder
I bought this lens as I needed one lens I could take on hikes as I do a lot of mountain walks. This is a cracker as at 24mm the relatively wide angle on a full frame captures some great landscape shots. At 100+mm it is good enough for capturing greater landscape details. It's not good enough for wildlife photography unless you are already close to your subject. Having said that if you use a camera with a high pixel. Count you can still crop and enlarge and the results will still be good. I'm not a professional photographer btw, and I'm not up on all the technical lingo so I can't comment on really specialised technical performance, it for me in summary it is a well built peice of kit with OSS it's a superb all-rounder.

On a Sony A6500
Why did you choose this product over others?: I bought this to try as a street photography/travel lens on a Sony A6500 instead of having to keep swapping over the Sigma 30 and 56mm lenses. It was also to ensure I had a dedicated full-frame lens in case I got a ff camera. I ran a series of still life tests and discovered it wasn't as sharp as the 56mm so it's gone mostly unused. I'm unsure if sacrificing a little image quality over having to keep swapping lenses was the right choice for me. It's also [too] big and heavy but does have extra reach. It's always a compromise somewhere. I haven't tried it on a ff camera to compare, but maybe I'd be more impressed with image quality if I did, as the DxO sharpness stats jump from 20-25 on Sony APSC to FF, with overall score going 20-30.
