Review: Nice intermediate difficulty model ship. - The precarved hull and many metal fittings speed up the build and reduce the difficulty. A Dremel tool and lots of clamps (see photo), are highly recommended. Following the instruction booklet with care and understanding the scale drawings are essential. Patience and time (a few hours for a couple of months to do a good job) are also essential. While I'm early in to this build, all is not perfect with this kit. While a section at the foremast is drwn to scale, not so for the main mast: dimensions have to be taken from the rigging drawing which is difficult at best. As a builder of a 64gun Napoleonic era ship from Caldercraft, (see photo) I strongly recommend building one of their smaller "easier" ships (not the one in the photo): highest quality materials and elaborate instructions for every step. While elaborate, it's a much better experience in my opinion. With Caldercraft, when finished, you will have a work of art. Review: Soon will be ready to run the British blockade - Carving the hull is challenging, but I forgot to measure and carve the deck before adding the planking, just smoothed it. This error was discovered far too late when I found the guns had difficulty fitting the gun ports. Shaving the gun carriage took care of this. If you do not have helping hands (the Kracken) or a speed hand drill (as shown in the pictures), and a good pair of curved tweezers, you will have a lot of problems. This is a great project model, and I highly recommend it.
