It depends on how you use the purifier and it is recommended that the filter should be replaced every 6–8 months. 
You may also need to change the filter if you notice: 1.Increased noise when the air purifier is on 2. Decreased airflow. 
3. Unusual odors. 4. A visibly clogged filter.

I have 3 rooms I would like to purify-  1st. 500 sq. ft. w/ vaulted ceiling; 2nd. 350 sq. ft  and 3rd. 190 sq. w/ normal ceilings What do you suggest?

These answers are all over the place because no one is taking Time into consideration. The description is 219 square feet in 20 minutes or 5 times per hour OR 1200 square feet per hour. They recommend this for a smaller room if you want it cleaning all the air multiple times per hour. Of course you'll need a separate unit for every room no matter the size if you're closing doors between the rooms.
