Blocks nuisance calls and I'm not with BT
I was a bit nervous paying this for a phone with such mixed reviews, but having been registered with the Telephone Preference Service for years and getting fed up with all the international nuisance calls that they have no power to deal with. I decided I needed to do something. The phone is nice and solid, feels comfortable to hold and is easy to use. The first job you are going to want to do, is to connect your mobile (can connect more than one) via bluetooth and import your contacts. Also when your mobile is connected via bluetooth, you can use your mobile instead of the handset when making landline calls and your Landline phone can be used when calling on your mobile. Quite useful if your battery is low or you prefer to use the other device. You do need caller ID from your phone service provider for the call blocking to work, so if you don't have that then you should get it. If your provider charges for such an in-expensive feature, maybe it's time to review your service agreement. Call blocking is simple. If an unknown number phones, they get displayed and you can choose to accept or add to the blocked list. If you block them, they get a message telling them they are blocked in future. If they are a friend or family or genuine caller, and they haven't been added to your phone book, they will unfortunately have to pass the call screening. This is down to you to ensure family and friends are in your contacts. If they aren't, why on earth not ? They can pass call screening by announcing who they are. Your phone then rings and announces the caller from the name they left (recorded from what they said) and you can choose to accept or reject and whether to block the caller. It does take time. But the end result of bothering to set it up correctly will benefit you. No product is just going to be able to decide for you, who to accept and who to block. One very useful feature of the call blocking is the ability to block area codes. So you could block calls from a particular country. If you don't have friends or relatives there and a nuisance caller starts to phone you using multiple calling lines ( a common trick ). you can just block calls from an entire region of the world if you wish. You can also block calls beginning with a set of numbers, which should reduce cold callers from solar scams/insurance scams/pension scams etc. No system will ever be perfect, scammers will find ways around many systems, but this one seems to cover most bases and as a result, I haven't received a nuisance call since installing it, although as you can see from the photos, they have tried, those numbers are known scammers, easily googled, and the red symbol shows they are blocked. Phone never rang, and they will move onto softer targets, i.e those without call blocking. Good luck to you if you are reading this review and don't buy :) The only feature I miss is my previous phone announced the caller name if they were in my contacts, saving bothering to go look at the screen. A minor negative. Overall I would score this 9.5/10 with the announce caller name my previous non call blocking phone had being the .5 of a point lost, but I consider this a small loss, compared to never being bothered listening to John with his heavy foreign accent explain to me that he is calling from Windows, or Janet, also with an incredibly heavy foreign accent, who wants to let me know that the tax office are going to send me to jail and Paul the Nigerian Pastor/Prince/Investment banker would like my bank details to send me lots of money to hide for him

A little expensive but a great cordless phone
Iโve only dropped a star because of the cost, and maybe the engagement when you put it on the base could be better ( knock it and it falls over). But this is a well made and well featured phone. The call quality is great, I use it connected to my router. The screen isnโt massive but itโs very clear and readable and you can select your colour scheme. Buttons are responsive- but itโs processor is a bit slow- type in a contact using the keys (abc etc) and itโll take a couple of seconds to catch up, but it will always get you the result ! I like the remote answerphone, and Iโve set up the call blocking which is a great addition. I set up the contacts by Bluetooth from a mobile then deleted the mobile from the phone so it doesn't divert your mobile calls to the BT handset unless you want that of course. I suppose it would be handy if your mobile had no charge or comfort was an issue- the BT phone is light and comfortable to hold. Overall it gives a landline a new lease of life!

No more nuisance callsโฆ.whippee
I brought these phones more than 3 years ago and they are excellent quality and still going strong - in that time we have had no nuisance calls. The phones are very easy to set up, the most onerous thing you need to do is add all your contact phone numbers into the phones directory. There is a comprehensive instruction booklet provided. When I brought them I thought I would have to set something up in order to block the nuisance calls, but no that is done automatically, if the callers number in not in your contact list your phone does not ring. The unknown caller will be told โCallers to this number are being screened by a BT call blocking systemโ they are then asked to announce their name and press #, then wait for the phone to be answered. The majority of nuisance calls ring off at this point, if the unknown caller does state their name and press #, the phone will ring and you are told it is an announced call. At this point you hear the persons voice/name, a message then gives you instructions on what number button to press dependant on whether you want to answer the call or not. This service is at no extra cost to you. I use the hands free facility a lot, really good if there are a few of you in the room wanting to listen to and speak to the caller. Also if there are a few of you in different rooms, each of you can lift up a receiver and join in the same conversation. Good volume levels. I believe you can sync your mobile phone somehow, but after 3 years I havenโt managed to get round to it. Excellent phone if you are looking to eliminate nuisance calls, a must for all older people. Highly recommended.

Unique item with flaws
These things are obviously built to a price and canโt come close to the quality of mobile phone most of us have in our pocket. They work well and I found it easy to set up. It looks nice and is solidly made. We wanted it primarily for the ability to receive mobile calls (there do not seem to be many phones on sale in the UK that have this ability) we are always missing calls when the phone is not near by. This function works well but you do experience some echoing on the line which is annoying. We do not use the call blocking feature as with BT itโs very easy to block unwanted numbers and the whole thing just sounds clunky with legitimate callers having to announce themselves but it may be useful for many. Likewise we use BTโs 1571 so the answer phone is redundant. Given this is a BT "Premium" product and they are currently forcing Digital Voice landlines on the country it is annoying this phone has not been updated to take account of two issues this creates. Firstly, with DV one plugs the main phone (the one with the answer machine controls) into the back of oneโs BT Smart Hub, rather than the phone line. Thatโs easy if your BT Hub is in the living room. Ours is in a cupboard. This means the charging base / answer machine controls, for one Premium phone, also has to be in the cupboard. BT is missing a trick by not selling spare charging bases or a small device that plugs into the Smart Hub and allows connection to the other Premium phones. Itโs also worth noting that old phone extension leads do not seem to work. The instruction manual says that only the cable that came with the phone must be used. They should sell extension cables that will work in case you want some distance between your BT Hub and the Premium phone base. Secondly many of us are now getting to the stage where we really donโt need a landline. However you must have a landline to use the Premium Phone, you cannot just use it via your mobile phones. If the Premium phone does not detect a working landline it just gives a โline faultโ message. At the very least one should be able to disable this message. Still debating whether to send them back. Didn't send them back but very disappointed in the key feature for us. In theory the base station connects to two mobile phones via bluetooth. Then when the landline rings the mobiles ring and visa versa so you can just pick up the call on the nearest phone. This feature is however poorly implemented with calls not coming through or if they do very poor call quality. We switched it off in the end.

Appear to meet the claims made.
Compared to my previous Gigaset phones these certainly wouldn't win any prizes for being good looking or compact and as to the build quality only time will tell. I presume there must be a demand for bigger buttons on this type of phone and naturally that dictates the size. So why did I buy them? 1) Sound quality 2) Superior call blocking. 1) I wear hearing aids and whilst these phones do not claim to be hearing aid compatible and in fact in the snall print it even tells you that they may cause a humming noise on the aid, but happy to say no problems for me, the handset volume could benefit from being a little louder but the sound is very clear. The base unit however is capable of such loud volume that there is plenty of scope for the hard of hearing. Another benefit sound wise is that, via Bluetooth, calls can be answered on a paired mobile phone so if sound is clearer on a mobile that is an option. 2) Call blocking does, as promised, work extremely well, on the 'announce' setting you don't get any indication of calls that have been blocked until you pick up the handset and see the notification symbol. I wouldn't say I get a lot of spam calls but it came as a surprise to see how many are caught There are other settings to suit varying requirements. It wasn't difficult to set up but the manual is useful for explaining what you are selecting as it is not 100% intuitive, it gets better as you pick up the names for the features. All in all I'm happy with my purchase and we all know the end of the ugly duckling story!

Call blocking works well.
These replaced an old Panasonic set of DECT phones. My main requirement was for call blocking as the old phone had only a 30 entry block list. Set up was OK for me as I am a bit of a geek. Pairing to two mobile phones and importing the contacts worked well and I was able to create a combined main contacts list on the device. The option of calling using a linked mobile was superficially attractive but didn't actually seem to work. Even with the mobile close to the base station it would initiate the call, but on answering, all went silent after a second. So I've just unlinked them for now. Can't see me collecting a vast number of new contacts to transfer so I can enter any new ones individually. This is essential as the call blocking does what it says on the tin. If a number isn't in your contacts they won't get through without your consent. The only slight issue is the answering machine rings before it answers. That can be increased from the default 6 but with Virgin Media 1571, you only get 7 -10 . The answering machine seems pretty good and is fundamental to call screening so I'm going to get Virgin to turn my 1571 off. The speed dial is useful once you get used to it taking a good long press on 1,2 etc. to kick in. Haven't had a single spam call since we had them.

Decent set of phone's
Decent quality triple phones and just like my last set from BT, they block nuisance and unknown caller's well, especially once you've added your main contacts to the VIP list. The colour screen is like something from an old 2/3G mobile, loud enough volume on the earpiece and on speaker (which is activated by pressing the green call button again during the call). Good size numbers which are backlit, the phones stand upright separate from the base and are comfortable to hold and use. The screen goes blank during calls, but if you press the green call button during the call, it displays the ongoing length of the call so far, which is useful (especially if you have an inclusive calls package which are usually set to a 60 minute fair usage maximum before additional charges are incurred). My only gripes are minor. The dashboard is a tad fiddly as ever and not the quickest navigating between menus. And finding contacts is cumbersome in comparison to a mobile. Clicking on your contacts button, it's take a second or two to generate and you can't just scroll through the list like on a mobile. Instead, you have to manually click through one at a time, but you can speed this up by pressing the numbers that correlate to the spelling of your contacts name - i.e., for John, you'd press 5 once (for the J under J, K and L) and the screen goes briefly blank before displaying the list of contacts starting with J, and you can press the 6 three times for the O (M, N, O) etc. Virgin Media have moved us away from the old copper lines, to making calls via the internet fibre hub, so the answerphone base will have to be near wherever your hub is. Frustratingly for me, the hub is upstairs, so the green light on the answerphone signifying a message is not where I want it. Even so, the other handsets display missed calls and the number of messages left, and you can pick them up from any handset - not perfect, but functional. Oh and a bonus, ideally I'd have had a 4th handset and I'm pleased to say that I was able to connect the best of my old BT handsets to the new base, which answers fine, albeit it doesn't seem to be able to display my contact list.
