CFexpress Type A Card Reader (USB 3.2 Gen) – Fast and Reliable, but Is It Worth It?
Pros ✅ High-Speed Transfers – With USB 3.2 Gen technology, this reader delivers blazing-fast read and write speeds, making it ideal for handling large 4K/8K video files and high-resolution photos. ✅ Plug-and-Play Convenience – No need for drivers—just plug it in, and it’s ready to use on Windows, macOS, and other compatible devices. ✅ Compact & Portable – The small, lightweight design makes it easy to carry in a camera bag for on-the-go use. ✅ Durable Build – Many models come with a solid aluminum or reinforced plastic casing to ensure longevity and heat dissipation during extended transfers. ✅ Wide Compatibility – Works with CFexpress Type A cards commonly used in high-end Sony cameras, including the Alpha series. Cons ❌ Limited to CFexpress Type A – If you need to read CFexpress Type B or SD cards, you’ll need a separate reader. ❌ Can Get Warm During Extended Use – Some users report that prolonged file transfers generate noticeable heat. ❌ Slightly Expensive – CFexpress readers tend to be pricier than traditional SD or microSD readers, which might feel steep for casual users. Final Verdict The CFexpress Type A Card Reader (USB 3.2 Gen) is a must-have for photographers and videographers who frequently deal with large file transfers. It’s fast, reliable, and convenient, but if you work with multiple card formats, a multi-card reader might be a better investment.

Competent and compact, works great!
I haven't had this reader long enough to determine its long term reliability, however I did run the Blackmagic Disk Speed Test on it and it worked great (USB C). Its read and write speed were slightly faster than my ProGrade reader which cost considerably more. Since this reader is small and does not require a USB cable, it will replace my ProGrade reader in my travel kit. I recommend giving it a try.

Poor case design. Good electronics. Works on Intel + Apple Silicon Macs, iPads, PCs, etc.
The plastic end caps fall off allowing the circuit board to slide out. Finally happened to me when unplugging the reader from my computer. The little glue that had held it together has failed and there is no mechanical mechanism to keep the case together; just adhesive. -1 point. Other than that, read on. I still like this thing. This thing works exactly as you'd expect it to. I'm using it with a hand-assembled cfexpress type b (xqd) card (a samsung nvme drive from a PC, in a metal enclosure). It's one of my favorite devices now even beyond the photography use that it was intended for. Transferring lots of data between servers? No problem. This works in a pinch and is fast. Would buy again if I needed another. Thanks! Also, this is not a paid review. I just really like this thing.

FAST & Solid!!!!!!
I didn't bother benchmarking this but can say without question that between this and the proper card, I've never seen anything this fast. It transferred 2 4K movies in a couple of seconds! The convenience of USB C & A along with the size make this a must have. As far as build quality: The case is metal for durability and heat displacement. It feels solid! Highly recommended.

It works without any issues.
I've never used CF express B before, but it is simple enough. The card reader works great. It gets a little warm, but its not an issue if you just unplug it when you aren't using it.

Tout petit lecteur très rapide et efficace pour mes cartes CF Express B. La mise en place de la carte est facile tout comme la retirer contrairement à celles qu'on doit enfoncer profondément.

The CFexpress Type B card reader is a game-changer for those on the move. Its pocket-sized design makes it ultra-portable, while its affordable price tag is a welcome relief compare to other cfexpress card reader which way heavy in your pocket. It works seamlessly, transferring data quickly and reliably. If you need a compact, efficient, and budget-friendly card reader, this is the one for you.

It has a fast transfer speed, but as others have mentioned it does get warm after a transfer.
