Sky Song

One of my favourite middle grade reads of last winter. With two main characters (a girl and a boy) you really warm to: an eagle huntress and an inventor. A perfectly delivered exciting, edge of your seat, winter adventure. But, there is also so much more because in rich language but an accessible writing style it introduces the readers to magical realism. With an ice organ controlled by an evil Queen, three tribes that live in distinct habitats hiding from her terror. And an unexpected heroine and hero, who find themselves on a race against time to find an ancient song to push back evil. A absolutely outstanding standalone read that deserves to be read by readers of all ages and abilities. But, for those in their early stages of their journey into middle grade fantasy it will open doors to so many more future reads.

This wonderful accomplishment by Abi Elphinstone is captivating and beautiful, its about a girl who's voice has immense power which is why she is locked up by the ice queen but her, flint and ble, the feather tribe, and pebble save the day and make your heart soar. By reading this book you will be transported to another world, Abi's world, anx it's a beautiful place to be in. Thank you Abi for this wonderful, exiting journey, all in one book.

What a beautifully written story. The characters are so likeable, and described in such detail that they have stayed with me months after reading. Definately one for a reread, even being an adult and therefore well above it's target audience age. A good pre cursor into Northern Lights and it's ilk. An easier read, but the same magical quality of the world created.

What an absolutely beautiful book! Abi's amazing artwork draws you in straight away with settings so beautifully written you feel as if you are there with Eska, Flint and Blu. A wonderful mix of characters, setting and factual information. I did not want this to end and am now definitely an Abi Elphinstone fan!

'You'll need the Fur Tribe on your side too, eventually, because only when all the tribes unite will we beat the Ice Queen'. When I first looked at Sky Song I was in deep thought wondering what would happen. Looking at the front cover, I was so excited; it looked so adventurous and I was very interested! What journey would it take me on? This book created astonishing imagery in my head and managed to paint a clear picture of the plot. I was so intrigued at the start that I couldn't put the book down. It was the first Abi Elphinstone book I have read and will not be the last! I love most of the characters including Pebble, Eska and Flint but Blu was by far my favourite. She was so sweet and amiable. 'Beyond the footsteps of the greatest explorers and up past the reach of the truest maps there lies a kingdom called Erkenwald; a place full of evil and dark magic'. The Ice Queen's magic is so cruel it made me feel quite tense. This book is so captivating that it makes me clench my fists at certain points and makes me dance at other times. I couldn't believe my ears when my teacher read all the different chapters as it is so unexpected and thrilling; I NEVER wanted to put the book away!

I loved this book. It was an amazing read and I am very pleased at the content of it. I bought it on the kindle, it is worth the money, I am very pleased that I decided to read it. I recommend it to children aged 7-11.

Brilliant story with a lot of heart. Felt a lot like reading a C S Lewis book. A lovely self contained adventure with likeable characters, well paced action and a nice underlying message about belonging. Loved the dreamcatcher books by Abi but found myself wishing they would hurry up a bit, this one I didn't want it to end. Definitely recommended for a winter tale.

Well worth the read

I bought this for my school's 3rd-5th book club. It's a fast pace adventure following two kids who are fighting an evil queen trying to rescue their parents.
