The picture shows what looks like a booster fan . Will i have enough pressure to open flap without that?

The flap is light weight metal. Not sure what fcm fan you are using but I purchased the 10 inch versions for a range hood with 1200 fcm fan. At the lowest setting it works as described but at the highest setting it blew the flap off the mount.

Can your 8" brackdraft damper be installed vertically on a ceiling with the vented air flowing downward and then close when the vent air flow stops?

This 8" backdraft damper supports installation in the ceiling, but the dampers need to be installed in the open direction, which means the vented air flows upward, otherwise, they cannot close automatically due to gravity.
