Ecotex PWR Emulsion

I'm new to screen printing and when I first tried to use this emulsion, I failed miserably in so many ways. After much trial and error and so many messed up screens I have a system that works for me perfectly every time and I wanted to share it to hopefully save people some headaches. 1. Apply emulsion in a dark room, making sure it is smooth without drips. I use a headlamp with a red light setting so I can see. 2. Let the emulsion dry in a dark place where it will see no light. I usually go for 24 hours, but as long as it is not sticky to the touch it should be fine. 3. Print your image on transparency paper. I print it twice and put the papers together to make sure light does not get through. 4. Put the transparency paper on the side of the screen you will put against the shirt (or whatever you are printing on) and make sure the image is backwards so it will be correct when you flip the screen over. This is also a good time to think about the orientation and placement of the image on the screen so it will be easy to screen print later. Once the transparency paper is in place, set something clear over it, I use a piece of glass I got from a picture frame. Make sure your images are lined up and you did not bump them. 5. Put something black under the screen so you don't get reflection. 6. Using a 500 watt halogen yellow construction light (the standard yellow light you see everywhere) 18" over the screen and make sure it stays in place. Turn on the light for 4 minutes. 7. Before exposing the screen to any light put the screen under a shower or sink and get the areas wet where the images should be and let it sit for about 5 minutes to help it soften. Now you can run water over the screen and very lightly use your fingers to rub the areas to clear out the image. I do this on both sides until the image is very clearly clean of emulsion. I don't like to use a pressure washer, the sink works perfectly. That's it!

Good emulsion provides fine detail for my halftones. Very fast exposure time. Tough stencil that holds up to cleaning with a pressure washer after it has cured. I like that it is shelf stable. Have some screens that I coated 5 months ago, the exposure time was nearly twice as long, but still turned out great.

I bought this because I needed emulsion in a pinch. I print with waterbased inks on paper and typically I prefer Murakami T9 or Photocure Pro. This PWR is okay, but seems a little funky after washout, like there is always a layer that didn't cure and is streaking. Recently after a 300 pull print run, I went to reclaim the screen and noticed that I could chip away at the stencil with my finger nail pretty easily if I wanted. Regardless, it held up to actual printing. I think I'm going to go ahead and buy another quart because I have some printing to do ASAP, but I might go back to T9 before that quart is empty.

Second time trying this emulsion. First time I had no idea what I was doing and switched to the beginner emulsion which was fine but didn’t last too well with water-based inks and would start to break up while printing. This second time around, I had a better light and setup, exposed for 15 seconds using a 50 w LED UV light at a distance of about 18 inches off the print side. Worked perfectly. Had to drop down from my originally 45 seconds, then to 30 second and found I was over exposing with both. So 15 seconds it is

Screen printed so many things with speed all but thought I’d try something else. Huge mistake. Dried with drips through 180 screens and ruined project. Wish I could return it but past the window. Pure garbage. Do not buy!

After my 3rd order of Jacquard Diazo Emulsion, I decided to try something else instead. I got into screen printing a couple months ago and had not successfully managed to make a good screen. Now, the color coding system for Ecotex is nothing short of confusing. I've looked at their emulsion countless times, but due to the poorly explained color system, I had absolutely zero idea which one to use. If Jacquard had worked, I never would have even given Ecotex a shot, simply because the colors and product titles did not differentiate each option well. With so many failed attempts, I decided I would give this brand a try instead. A lot of reviews mentioned it was great for beginners, so I settled on the purple PWR for my 110 screens, intending to use water based inks. I'm absolutely thrilled with the results. The consistency is COMPLETELY different from Jacquard, it's much thicker and more jelly like. However, it seems to coat far easier and much better. My very first attempt, I managed to coat 3 screens perfect. Exposure times seem to be about 1/4th that of Jacquard as well. One reviewer mentioned 3 minutes 10 seconds with a 500W halogen light at 18" above the screen, I wish I had listened. My lamp is 15-16" above, so I dropped it to 3 minutes flat and just barely underexposed. I then bumped it to 3:30 and just barely over exposed. Now that I am using 3:10 as he suggested, my screens are flawless. Ecotex, thank you kindly for the amazing product. Also, please do a better job explaining your products. You would have saved me 2 months of headaches if these were more clearly explained.

Been using this emulsion exclusively for past couple of years. I get fast exposures with a 500W halogen lamp. It has a long shelf life, not indefinite, but if you're making screens regularly, it normally doesn't go bad. I did have it fail after freezing once, so if you workspace is unheated, bring it inside in the winter. I usually do smaller shirt orders, like 50-100, and it holds up just fine. Washes out of old screens easily with cheap emulsion remover.

New to screen printing but this was recommended for water based ink. Had a hard time figuring out the exposure because it exposed so fast. Exposure time on white 230 mesh was <2 seconds with the light 14" from the screen. I used a 50w LED UV light purchased on Amazon for about $40 with a stand. Seems to hold small details really well with the Anthem exposure calculator sheet (even scaled down to fit within print region). Washing out required the pressure washer even with the ecotex emulsion remover.

Don't follow the package timings, you'll be wasting your time and materials. The solution is very sensitive, and hard to manage, I got best results at 28 seconds with a 500 watt halogen light, and not the 8 minutes prescribed on the package. I suspect if I use the UV light, time are going to be less than 10 seconds.
