AG Bass Preamp Pedal DI
It is very clean sounding and quiet. It has the Aguilar tone signature. I use it to drive a Crest ProLite 2.0 power amp into a fEARful 1515/66 cabinet. The company should offer it in a 1 RU. It is time to come full circle and offer professional products for bass guitar in rack format as well. I have gigged the DB 680, DB 659 AG 500sc and the Tone Hammer DI. The build quality is solid. It should come with a power supply. It could be improved upon by having 2 sweepable mid EQ's. It would be a good idea if it had a "Through" output. Still, the tone is tasty, warm and full - classic Aguilar.

Highly recommend
I just purchased an Aguilar AG DI bass pedal and I highly recommend it! I originally purchased an Ampeg SGT -DI and I absolutely hated it. Horrible tone where it made my bass sound cheap and muddy. However, the Aguilar AG is true to tone with just a little bit of color, it’s simple to operate and well constructed… If you want a clean punchy sound without sacrificing rich warm tones this is the bass pedal to buy

Amazed
Amazing product..I own the Aguilar tone hammer and at times it could be overbearing to the av engineer and mix. This product is just what was needed and the appropriate tone and signal without effecting the overall mix

An unremarkable preamp in a crowded market
PROS: Nice construction. I think it looks pretty cool. Handy little size. Nice 4-band EQ, although it's nothing special. The bright/deep/both switch is a little clunky to select, but it's functional and useful. Has aux/in + headphone jack, which is handy and unusual, especially among Aguilar products. The tone is similar to the AG700, of course, which can be a good thing if you like it. It's pretty clean/transparent without any noticeable added noise. I think it sounds good, but any tonal nuance won't translate to a mix, live or recorded. It will just sound like a bass, and it will be indistinguishable from other similar DIs. CONS: 18V power supply not included, and it doesn't take batteries or use phantom power. The Tonehammer pedal does offer all three ways to power it. No unaffected output thru-channel, which is not cool. It's cool that it's small/light, it's not a suitable standalone - it *really* needs to be mounted on a board. A very small tug from a bass cord, and it will flop around like a matchbox. This diminishes the value of it as a headphone amp. E.g., a Helix Stomp holds up well as a standalone desktop unit. The AG preamp does not, and who wants to put their whole pedal board on their desk? Overall, I feel like the Tonehammer offers a lot more for the same price; although the tone is a little different, and I think the AG preamp introduces less noise. For $299 the AG preamp is by no means a bad buy, but there are so many other choices that seemingly offer more.
