Try it as a culinary herb!
I first learned about stevia when my local organic grower offered it in his line of herb seedlings. I bought one plant to try in my herb garden and when it got big enough to start harvesting from, I started trying it in different dishes. I loved it. Summer is over, the frosts have come, and the plant is long used up but I got so addicted to it that I went looking for dried stevia to get me through the winter. This 1-lb bag of powdered stevia from Frontier was the best I could find. It's works well as a substitute for the fresh leaves -- as long as you use it sparingly. I use fresh or dried stevia wherever I use basil, such as pasta and couscous dishes with vegetables or mushrooms -- use both basil and stevia. Stevia complements lemon juice very well when that's one of the ingredients. For a quick sauce, I mix the dried stevia with a bit of olive oil and drizzle it on pasta or cheese ravioli. Yum! I mix the dried stevia with a bit of water in the bottom of a casserole dish, add peeled and chopped sweet potatoes, stir, and bake (spoon the juice over the potatoes a few times while they're baking). I even use the dried stevia in oatmeal (*real* oatmeal, which is rolled or steel cut oats, soaked in water, and cooked, not that awful powdery stuff that comes in a packet, contains xanthin gum, and has the consistency of glue once cooked). Just remember that a little stevia goes a long way. It has a very intense flavor. Start with a 1/4 teaspoon and work your way up to the taste you like. I would NOT recommend this as a "sugar substitute" for baking. It's not going to dissolve and blend like granulated sugar.

Some bad, overall very good
Waited a week before posting this. BAD NEWS: No, this is not just a natural sweetener with no taste other than sweet, to mimic sugar. It's minimally processed, so it retains some of its plant flavor. And some of it tends to settle to the bottom of the beverage container. GOOD NEWS: The taste is OK. The wife and I actually like the taste. An acquired taste, but definitely sweet. And this is as natural a sweetener as you can possibly find. It has a bit of a licorice taste to it. And it sweetens beverages perfectly well. OVERALL: We'll definitely buy again. Other forms of stevia are incredibly processed, to the point where we're not sure of the benefit. This form we have confidence in.

First time, LAST TIME! Not for me! !!
I was doing research and read this would be the best alternative to sugar. I have diabetes and needed an alternative to man made calorie free sugar. This is natural, unprocessed, no calorie and 300 times sweeter than sugar! What can go wrong?!? I see people are giving this a positive light but lets be honest. I had never tried it before and this was the first time ever ordering. YUCK!! This will take a MAJOR life adjustment. To me, it tasted bitter, smelled like fresh cut grass and no amount of it made the tea any better. I was hoping that I could get use to this and make a change. However, every time I smelled it afterwards made me gag. This was not for me. It was grainy and did not fully disolve since it is a plant after all. I figured I would stick to plain water and just use agave nectar for sweetening. I would much rather cut out sugar altogether than to keep using this. Sorry but this was not for me. I had to throw it away. Lesson Learned.

Mother Nature's Sugar-Free Sweetener...
I should warn you- This is a lot to read. This product does exactly as it's supposed to, with NO CHEMICALS. a "pinch", in your fingertips, is equivalent to a teaspoon of white sugar. I use it for ICED TEA. Unlike other "STEVIA PRODUCTS", where chemicals have been used to bleach-out the naturally occurring green color, and the naturally occurring aftertaste, THIS PRODUCT IS THE REAL DEAL. For those of you concerned about your health... Those "White" Stevia products AND "Stevia Drops" are probably more toxic than aspartame, due to the horrendous process they're put through, in order to remove any aftertaste AND to make them "appear" more appealing. The ONLY downside is: Aftertaste The aftertaste takes a bit of getting used-to... If one uses TOO MUCH, it will taste like black licorice... just remember- It's sweeter than sugar, so smaller quantities DO suffice. NOTE: It's easier to add more stevia (if needed) than to remove it (once you've already put it into your food or drink). This is a good product for those wishing to take care of their health.

recipe for DELICIOUS SWEET TEA!
UPDATE July 1 14: As I was mixing up yet another batch of tea, it dawned on me that I needed to share some information about the recipe below. I mention that I use granulated, evaporated cane juice. The crystals are larger than those of standard table sugar (think Kosher or Sea Salt compared to table salt). That might change the measurements of the sweetener. I would advise anyone making the tea with table sugar or any sugar with similar sized crystals to start with only 1/3 cup or 5 Tablespoons and then adjust as needed. Also, the flavor of tea will influence how much sweetener you will need. If you have teas made with cinnamon or similar herb that imparts a natural sweetness, like Orange Spice or Bengal Spice tea, you may not need as much sugar and stevia. By the way, I can't keep enough of this stuff made! I now make 1 gallon just before bed every night to keep up with my family's demand. The tea tastes great! We have graduated to 3/4 teaspoon stevia and 6 Tablespoons of sugar per 2 quarts of tea. I still prefer my original sweetener ratio of 7 or 8 Tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 teaspoon stevia but 3/4 teaspoon stevia and 6 Tablespoons of sugar per 1/2 gallon still tastes pretty good to us so we will stick with that for a while. I went down to 5 Tablespoons of sugar too soon and did not like it so I won't be doing that again for a while. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am no stevia expert, but let me share what I've learned since using this particular package of stevia. First, this is a green powder. Hopefully this means the stevia is dried, then ground into a powder with nothing else added. There is no indication on the package of any other ingredients. Second, I am in love with this product and will share my recipe for sweet tea later below. Third, stevia is a leaf and a leaf doesn't dissolve. Just like tea leaves, the longer you leave them in water, the stronger they become. The stevia though, becomes sweeter and sweeter while losing its bitterness. In my house, the 'sweet tea' only lasts 2 days, tops. I don't know how sweet it would get if one continued to let it set for days longer. Fourth, I LOVE HONEST TEA and the fact that you can drink 16.9oz of it with only 25 carbs or less, including the 'not too sweet tea' variety. They are expensive though. I buy them when on sale and the rest of the time, I make my own. My homemade 'sweet tea' is just as delicious with 24 carbs per 16oz glass. Makes 2 Qts or 1/2 gallon of tea. Best results when made the day before or at least a few hours before consuming. The tea tends to get sweeter as time passes, so keep this in mind. If you consume the tea right away, it will taste like regular, sweetened tea. A few hours later or left overnight, it will taste like sweet tea! The following recipe is even approved by my 3 year old. Enjoy! 1. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of the stevia into a 16oz cup or glass. Add a few DROPS of hot water at a time, swirling the cup as you add the water to "dissolve" the stevia. Keep adding small amounts of water and swirling the cup, until the stevia is completely "dissolved". Adding the water in this manner will help prevent clumps. I then take a spoon to break up any small lumps that may have formed and stir the mixture. Add 7 or 8 Tablespoons of sugar to this mixture, fill the glass with hot water and stir to dissolve the sugar(I use organic, granulated, evaporated cane juice). Set aside to allow the stevia to 'bloom'. Please note that the word 'dissolved' is in quotes because stevia is a plant and cannot technically dissolve but it will mix in and remain suspended in liquid for a period of time. 2. Brew your tea. Be sure to use 16oz less water. I use 9 regular sized tea bags (3 Jasmine, 4 Bengal spice, 1 Chinese restaurant and 1 Linden blossom). Use whatever you like. 3. After the tea is brewed, remove the tea bags. Dump in the 16oz stevia/sugar mixture, then shake or stir. (I shake mine in a 1/2 gallon Ball jar). 4. Let chill overnight or at least a few hours. After chilled, shake or stir again, add ice to a glass, fill with tea and enjoy! Again, delicious right away but it gets sweeter the longer it can set undisturbed in the fridge. It is absolutely delightfully sweet the next day or even after a few hours. If you make it in the morning before work, it's perfect by dinner time. TIPS: Remember to stir or shake each time before serving since the stevia will eventually settle to the bottom of your pitcher or jar. You could discard what settles since the sweetness has already been extracted by the water, but there are an abundance of nutrients in Stevia leaf so I shake the tea each time before serving and discard nothing. This recipe works well doubled or divided. I plan to slowly reduce the sugar 1/8 cup (2 tablespoons) at a time until perhaps I can eliminate it all together or come close to it. I don't know if I'll need to increase the stevia by 1/8 teaspoon at the same time, or if the current amount of stevia will remain to be enough, since it sweetens as it sets. I'll have to experiment but that will come much later. We are happy with the current recipe for now. I did just make a batch and only put in 7 tablespoons of sugar, since it will set all night and most of the day tomorrow. I'm sure no one at my house will be able to tell a difference. For my recipe, 1/2 teaspoon stevia = 1/2 cup sugar; 1/4 teaspoon stevia = 1/4 cup sugar. This may change, depending on what application you are using the stevia for or how long a beverage sets in the fridge sweetened with it. You can adjust it to your taste. Hope this helps, let me know how you enjoyed your tea! My basic recipe is a starting point but I've tried different combinations of raw honey. I have liked all my variations and use my original recipe above as a base. Raw honey is 17 carbs per tablespoon (3 teaspoons), where as sugar is 12 carbs for the same measurement. You will want to use a little less honey or adjust your sugar to maintain the carb level. I honestly use all 3 in my tea sometimes. At 6 tablespoons sugar, 2 tablespoons honey and 1/2 teaspoon stevia, the carb count raises to 26.5 grams of carbs per 16oz glass. Still terrific.

AMAZING HEALTH BENEFITS!!
Bitter and sweet flavor. Absolutely love the flavor!! Pairs up wonderfully with my teas(organic Yerba matte and jasmine green)and organic matcha and other flavors! Looking forward to discovering other flavor combos! Note I am a bit of an unusual person as I love the taste of bitter. Aside from the flavor which can somewhat resemble licorice(but it truly has a flavor all its own) the HEALTH BENEFITS are what I value most. I am an exceptionally healthy 36yr old person VERY methodical and health conscious, going back and forth between a vegan/vegetarian diet. Before sampling this product... I have already more energy now at this stage of my life than in my prime years(20's-30), but the very day I tried this product I noticed clear increased sustained energy even beyond what I have already been experiencing. I have noticed that same energy increase was not a one-time energy surge but have been experiencing that same constant energy boost each day as I daily use this product. Thru strict dedication over the course of many many years my mind and body have become VERY receptive and perceptive to what I feed it and I've learned the skill of really listening and discerning what my body is telling me.. This green stevia largely has it's natural restorative properties intact(minerals, phytonutrients etc) vs other denatured Stevia products.. really most white Stevia products are incomplete unnatural by-products. The green color of this product signifies it's natural designed-with-love nutrient profile is intact. As far as natural sweeteners go if you want what's best for your body consider this product, and even if you don't like the taste tell your tastebuds to shush-up and take it anyways. You will be doing your body a favor. Thanks for reading and may you prosper! Good health to you! =)

... actually PURE STEVIA and not mixed with artificial sweeteners like white stevia
Green stevia is the healthy choice because it is actually PURE STEVIA and not mixed with artificial sweeteners like white stevia. Also, the stevia in white stevia is REFINED. Why would you refine stevia when it is SO SWEET even in its dehydrated, powdered leaf state? I only give this three stars because it does not work for what I intended. This tastes terrible in my chocolates. It entirely dominates the flavor, no matter how little I use. It is even worse in carrot cake. It does go well with MILK. Dairy products seem to be the only thing that mask the sickly aftertaste. Some people like the aftertaste. I gave away the "stevia chocolates" I made to the people I knew who liked them. I served them to about 50 people and it was 50/50 — half the people liked them, half didn't. That's not acceptable to me, obviously. I'm used to 90% or better to liking my treats!

High quality, non-irradiated, organic ! Pure
Love frontier co-op products. Organic non-irradiated, what's not to love?- nothing. I use this green stevia herb powder and mix it with the organic pure white stevia extract for a little more sweet and then keep the mix in my refrigerator to refill countertop shaker. I use stevia everyday and I so appreciate quality of frontier co-op as well as bulk pricing.

Definitely organic Stevia
You do have to get used to the taste and the amount you use but for unrefined Stevia it works well in my cooking
