In 1942, an intelligence officer in North Africa encounters a female French Resistance fighter on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. When they reunite in London, their relationship is tested by the pressures of war. Review: ALLIED BLURAY - Having reached my 70's I find it harder and harder to find a recent film that I truly ENJOY. Allright 2016 is "new" to me, and this is a near perfect example of a film that gave pure enjoyment. From the opening scenes through to the extraordinary final one, this held my attention throughout. Great tension, romance, action, splendid CGI/SFX/location work, topped off by 5 star acting (even if Pitt was a bit wooden). I honestly did not know what was going to happen next and even though I admit there are plot holes, this, for me, is the best film seen for ages.Plenty of extras, lovely transfer, good sound and subtitles, and for once I didn't mind the length (2 hrs 7 mins). Forget the complaints about lack of accuracy - this is fiction, and ZEmeckis has told his tale brilliantly! Over egging the cake?? You decide! An excellent price so you can't really go wrong! Review: Allied - Blu-ray - Sometimes I get a bit stuck rating a film when I’d be inclined to go 3/5 because you can’t do that. So, I’ve opted for using 4 but in truth I’d rate ‘Allied’ a 3/5. It’s a relatively slow burn tale, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard as two agents brought together in 1942 to execute a mission in Casablanca whilst pretending to be man and wife. After the mission, they marry, have a child and locate to London. All seems well, until he is told his wife is a double agent and he must kill her if she fails to pass a trap set for her. I tend to enjoy the films of Robert Zemeckis more often than not, and although ‘Allied’ for me falls into the category of being something I’d watch again (but not necessarily all that often) it is enjoyable if you’re into WW2 drama. Pitt and Cotillard work well together and the visual effects are good (they tend to be with Zemeckis). It’s maybe a little less substantial than it aspires to be, but I got drawn in enough by the end to care about the main characters. Extras are OK. 67 minutes worth of small featurettes (which you can play as a single extra or individually) covering various aspect such as story conception (the basic story being based on a true story told to writer Steven Knight as a young man), production, visual effects (quite interesting given how much CGI is employed for creating wartime London and other environments). There’s some interesting nuggets of info amongst them. OK film, OK extras.

Tension overcomes some less credible aspects of the story
The story lacks a lot of credibility in several places and for me this does detract from its credibility. None the less the story is good and with lots of tension that builds and builds. So, while not really a credible war story it is a good war story that at least for me, worked well. For a Blu-ray I thought the sound was nothing special but the picture was of course, for a modern film, clear and sharp.

Great film, a must watch!
My dad watched this on TV, recommended it. Bought on dvd for him. Watched it myself, very good. Brad Pitt on top form as always, intrigue, mystery and an emotional ride. Great story to follow and actors cast perfectly.

Great ww2 story
A really good ww2 story. 2 spies meet in Morocco move to London and they get married, if I write any more of the plot it would spoil it for future viewers. It's a very suspenseful film with lots of twists in the story. Very enjoyable but not a gung ho bullets and explosions film . The picture and sound is very good and the dialogue is clear as well. Well worth a viewing.

Easy to watch, polished but lacks any real tension or drama.
This was a very easy way to spend 2 hours on a wet afternoon or Sunday evening. Very slick and stylish - the 'look and feel' of the movie was excellent with stunning set pieces, costumes and locations. It was almost too polished when you consider that a world war was actually taking place, there was a distinct lack of grit and grime, especially in the London sets IMO. The plot was a very good one full of romance, deception, espionage and glamour but it just was kind of rushed through with loads of plot holes in the timelines etc. I also felt no connection between the two leads at all, I have always found Marion Cotillard very cold and distanced in movies and with Pitt there was no real spark between them, just two very good actors going through the motions. So in conclusion this film is more style over content, pretty lightweight but will satisfy most who just need a few hours escapism with Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard wrapped up in a period piece looking fantastic.

A good watch that keeps you guessing
This review contains no spoilers. A good drama film with a focus on a love story. I felt no pacing problems, the dialogue didn't feel forced or poorly written, and the acting was on point. A few bits, here and there, that will stick in a history buff's throat but it doesn't make it unbearable, and I'd wager the majority of viewers won't even spot/think about them. For those who like to think and observe little details about the story, you'll have a blast too.

Amazing Film
From start to finish I was gripped by this movie. A truly beautiful love story that goes through the highs and lows of the war. The ending is very sad and I was in tears. Highly recommend watching this film. Brad Pitt is amazing. WOW!!

Magnifique

IL FILM NON E' MALE, FA UN PO' IL VERSO AL MITICO "CASABLANCA" MA LA COPPIA PITT COTILLARD SI DIFENDE BENE E LA RICOSTRUZIONE STORICA E' AMMIREVOLE...DO UNA STELLA IN MENO PERCHè IL BLU RAY 4K NON FUNZIONA, ARRIVA CIRCA A META' FILM E QUINDI SI BLOCCA INESORABILMENTE. COMUNQUE C'E' IL BD NORMALE CHE QUALITATIVAMENTE NON FA RIMPIANGERE TROPPO IL UHD. DA VEDERE.
