Does this have an actual on/off switch in order to be controlled by a remote?

Yes, but it has to be fairly close to the lights. And the required battery is VERY difficult to install. I found a helpful tip from another buyer explaining how to do that.

Can you attach to each other to extend?

No. Each set has a battery pack.

Is it 20 ft total with the 2 strings or 40 ft total with the 2 pack?

Hello, Sorry for the late reply. It’s 2 packs of strings, each pack is 20 ft long with their own batteries.

Can you wind together to lengthen?

Yes, I suppose you could. You would have 2 battery packs instead of 1. You could do it with a small twist tie to connect the 2 ends & having a battery pack at each end. Hope this helps.
