Hamster loves it
My Syrian hamster loves this for digging in her sand bath! Itโs fine but not dusty and is a soft white desert sand colour and contains no calcium. Only downside is that it picks up odours quickly, and if the bath also gets used as a toilet it becomes very smelly compared to regular wood shaving substrate and is harder to clean as any clumps break up easily. However when only used as a bath her fur is lovely and clean, and so soft. So am currently only putting in for play in evenings and removing when unattended, which works fine as she loves digging in it so much but doesnโt get too many chances to use it for toileting. The bagโs also great value for money. Iโd never be without a sand bath for my hammy now!

Perfect for my Hamster
I use this sand for my hamsters bath. It is perfect - pure sand with no additives and no dust whatsoever. This bag last me almost a year (for a roborovski) so it is definitely worth getting and good value for the price. I would say that this sand is better than a lot of sands sold for hamsters specifically.

โญโญโญโญโญ Great quality โ perfect for mixing!
Really impressed with this reptile sand. The texture is clean and fine without being dusty, and it mixed perfectly with coco soil to create a great substrate for my snake. It holds structure well while still allowing for natural burrowing, and it looks much more natural in the enclosure too. No strong smells, no clumping issues, and good value for the amount you get. Iโll definitely be purchasing again! ๐

Soft, odour free and loved by my gerbil.
I use this in my gerbilโs sand bath and she loves it. The sand is super soft and looks nice. Itโs easy to clean with a sieve and it doesnโt smell bad like some other sands do.

Syrian hamster loves it
About to buy my second bag. Wanted to give my syrian hamster a sand bath to dig in to replicate their natural behaviour and allow her to keep her fur clean. I tried a โsandโ supposedly for hamsters first but it was so dusty that I took the sand tub out straight away as itโs dangerous for their delicate little respiratory systems! Did more research and decided to give this one a try. It isnโt cheap, but I donโt regret buying it. Itโs lasted me a good length of time. If your hamster doesnโt pee in their sand it would last you much longer but my girl likes to use her sand bath as a potty now, which makes cage cleaning much easier but does mean I go through a lot of sand! Iโm disabled so sterilizing play sand isnโt an easy option for me even though it would be much cheaper. Wish this one was a bit cheaper but itโs the best option for me so will be sticking to it for the forseeable future.

We use this sand to fill several different sized containers in two different habitats for our beloved dwarf hamster. We also used it with our previous dwarf hamster (sadly, they have very short lifespans). They love to roll in the sand, and apparently it helps clean the fur. The sand never sticks to the fur, and it does not make any dust that we can see when they roll in it. It is endlessly entertaining to watch them roll, and our friends love to see videos of it. Sometimes the hamsters will use one of the sand containers as a litter box, and the sand is very absorbent and makes clumps. The sand is always very fine, consistent and pure. We have never seen any irregular sized or discolored grains. Zoo Med seems to have excellent quality control. I think the "Desert White" name for the color is a bit misleading. It is really more of a light tan than a white. But regardless, it is a neutral, light shade that hides stains and does not get yellow, unlike the white small animal soft bedding that we use throughout the main enclosure. I would not use or recommend "playground", "sandbox", landscaping sand or any kind of sand available at big-box hardware stores or garden centers, or beach sand, for hamsters. It could have contaminants, mites, dust etc. We are totally satisfied with Reptisand, and even though it seems to be marketed strictly to reptile owners, we highly recommend it for hamsters based on our own experiences. Perhaps the manufacturer should change the name or add some reference or graphic on the bag about hamsters - "Repti/HamSand" maybe?

I used this sand in my hamster's sandbox. She uses it as a potty. It's easy to scoop and sift. And it clumps when wet, so it's easy to see where she pees and to scoop it out. The color is really nice, but it's just cheaper to buy A $5 (50lb) bag of children's play sand from my local hardware store. That sand takes a little work to bake, and sift out large rocks, but in the long run it's a much better option for me. But this reptisand is a better consistency than the super grainy play sand. So it depends on the hamster you have. Dwarf hamsters may want to actually roll around and bathe in their sand, so this sand is softer and a better option. My Syrian only wants to dig a bit before going potty in it, so grainy play sand is the better option.
