Strong healthy roots gave a quick emergence.
I could find no fungus or rot on these. I counted full strong roots and they were all there along with a couple extra smaller roots. They arrived fast. Watered once, then about 70% emerged in a few days with temperatures in the seventies, and all except one strong root and the couple small extras have emerged after a week and a half. None of them show purple yet.

No Growth After 19 Days Compared to Jersey Knight
I ordered and received two different kinds of asparagus crowns on May 2: Jersey Knight (from another seller) and Purple Passion (from this seller). Comparing the two, the Purple Passion crowns looked much more spindly and dry upon arrival, which honestly worried me. I understand they were advertised as “dormant,” so I still gave them the benefit of the doubt. I soaked both varieties in water and planted them the same day. I live in Zone 7B, and temperatures here have recently been in the 80s–90s. It is now May 21 (19 days after planting), and all of my Jersey Knight crowns have already grown tall and healthy, while the Purple Passion still shows absolutely no visible growth. At this point, I’m concerned because my return window ends June 4. The RED-circled area in the photo is where the Purple Passion crowns were planted while the Jersey Knight from another seller are the growth beside it. I plan to carefully dig up the roots around June 1 to check whether they are still viable, and I’ll update this review afterward. TIMELINE: • April 27 – Ordered • May 2 – Received and planted • May 21 – NO VISIBLE GROWTH YET (CURRENT) • June 1 – Plan to dig and inspect roots • June 4 – Return window ends

Great
Seem to work pretty well! Far less than 100% actually turn into asparagus plants but I think that's normal

Small and dehydrated
I planted them out June 12th, still waiting on July one for a sprout. I did the 8" deep bed with 2" cover, planning 2" cover in 2 more stages as it grows, if it grows. They came fungus and mold free but quite dehydrated looking. They were also quite small, nothing jumbo about the roots. Will see in another week if they are growing. UPDATE, JULY 1st, two of the crowns have one sprout each, still hoping for more....July 10th update, 6 crowns now have a single stalk popping up, so I'm satisfied, but they are sooooo tiny..... I've upped my review to 3 stars. Update 7/12.. 9 crowns each with one sprout now, so upped rating to 4stars, just took a month for them to activate the roots and sprout. Just needed more patience, but I was expecting 2 week results, nothing wrong with 4 weeks if I had known.... Picture is sprout #8, sprouted just yesterday.

GURNEY'S - Purple Passion Jumbo Asparagus, Dormant Bare Root Vegetable Roots, 3 Year Old Plant Roots
I bought 3 or your GURNEY'S - Purple Passion Jumbo Asparagus, Dormant Bare Root Vegetable Roots, 10 Jumbo 3 Year Old Plant Roots per Offer and 3 Jersey-Knight 10 Live Asparagus Bare Root Plants -2yr-Crowns from Hand Picked Nursery at the same time. All of the Jersey-Knight Live Asparagus Bare Root Plants -2yr-Crowns from Hand Picked Nursery are growing great but the GURNEY'S - Purple Passion Jumbo Asparagus, Dormant Bare Root Vegetable Roots are not doing anything. I have them all planted in a new raised bed garden with all new dirt side by side. We had about three inches of rain over the last week and the raised bed garden drained like a champ. The dirt is great dirt with about 30% sand. Not happy. They were dried up and most were moldy when I got them.

Not all grew
Well I would have Hope to have given this more stars, 2 shoots for two stars out of twenty ordered. I will update and adjust if they take off but I didn’t think they would have made it anyway, they showed up dry and looking like they had been left in the sun. See pictures I have twenty green asparagus growing all took and they’re all looking good, only two of the purple asparagus took. I’ve check the roots of a few others, nothing sprouting yet But as I stated I will update if anything changes, planted on April 16

Only one grew out of the 10
I have been growing asparagus successfully for many years. I bought these dormant roots to increase the size of my asparagus bed on March 4th. The roots were completely dried out and desiccated. I figured it must be how they send them out to people. I have been waiting for them to send up a shoot ever since. My established bed had been producing for over two weeks now. I carefully dug down to check on a root and found it was not ever going to sprout. I then dug all of them out and one root out of the 10 they sent had a little shoot starting and two of the long roots were healthy looking. I would like my money refunded but I doubt that'll happen. Better to buy locally. I have pictures of how they arrived and how they look now.
