Nicely made, lovely bit of kit. Been a carpenter for 35+ years and would highly recommend this.

Simple but works really well

This guide is definitely a step up from the basic ‘eclipse’ style ones you get in ‘sharpening sets’ along with an oilstone, and it’s pretty well made, with a nice full-width roller to give it stability. But it’s still a bit of a faff to hold the blade square in the guide while setting it to the right protrusion (despite the handy jig) and then locking it tightly in place without it shifting a bit in the process. I find myself spending too much time on that bit of the process. The locking screws needed a touch of WD, and even then, they’re made a bit sticky in their movement by the black japanning, which I think was a bit of style over substance. Maybe stainless steel threads would be functionally better?Overall, I can use it for now - but I think that now I’ve wandered into this price bracket, I’ll trade up at some point and get the Veritas one...

Wide roller helps keep stones flat for longer. Simple to use, and provides a consistent honing angle. Well worth the money.

The item while being quite sturdy is just not built very well. The claws which clamp around the chisel are not even. Every time I would tighten the claws the chisel would go askew in the claws. The right side of the chisel was seated properly while the left side was not. I tried three different chisels of different sizes and the same thing happened. Upon further inspection you can see the lower angled bits of the claws are not even. The top flat bits of the claws are even but the angled sides are not, this is why the chisel goes or of square once you tighten the nut on the honing guide. I went ahead and did some strokes on the stones and sure enough, the grind line was not square but angled. Do not waste the time or money, buy something better. I felt hopeful on this because it is from Trend and the price was a good price, however it is a major disappointment.

There are most definitely cheaper alternatives, that do a pretty good job, but I took the plunge and bought the Trend honing guide and this is on another level. A really good honing guide and the plate to help set the angle you require is also very helpful and easy to use. I would recommend this despite the higher price tag.

Ce produit est exactement ce que je recherchais pour affuter mes ciseaux à bois, usinage des pièces de qualité, fonctionnement doux, sans points durs, reglage facile du ciseau et point positif le support est fourni avec un guide pour régler l'angle d'affutage. Rien a voir avec les produits a 10/15 euros. Ce guide est certes plus cher mais on en a pour son argent. A acheter les yeux fermés.
