Mastery of horror storytelling
Having finally explored the world of Junji Ito, I can confidently say the hype is well-deserved. This short story collection is a testament to his mastery of horror storytelling, paired with a distinctive art style that’s both simple and hauntingly effective. The artwork leans towards a precision doodle-like style which evokes an undeniable sense of unease. The stories in the collection vary in impact—some are brilliant, others are decent, and a few rely on the artwork to carry them. While many stories end on open-ended notes, which works to some extent, I felt that a little more closure would have made a stronger impact. Here’s my personal ranking of the stories in descending order of preference: 1. Tombs (Absolutely Brilliant Story!) 2. Clubhouse 3. Washed Ashore 4. The Window Next Door 5. The Strange Tale of the Tunnel 6. The Bloody Story of Shirosuna 7. Slug Girl 8. Floaters 9. Bronze Statue Despite some minor flaws, I am deeply impressed with Junji Ito’s storytelling and artwork. The collection is a must-read for horror fans, offering a unique blend of unsettling visuals and creepy narratives. Whether you're a longtime fan or new to his work, this book is worth your time.

Good stories but includes some old ones too.
Stories are as usual creepy, mind bending and bizarre, ito’s art is as usual to the mark but 2-3 stories are repeated and were in the previous books too, so if you have other books too, you are going to get some old repeated stuff.

I had the pleasure of gifting "Tombs" by Junji Ito, along with several other mesmerising titles from his collection, to my sister, and the delight in her eyes was truly heartwarming. Although I haven't explored the storyline in detail, I was captivated by the stunning illustrations that immediately grabbed my attention as I flipped through the pages. Each piece of art seemed to pulse with life and emotion, showcasing Junji Ito's unique ability to blend horror and beauty. The book arrived in impeccable condition—fresh and brand new, as if it had just come from the shelf of a cosy bookstore. There were no blemishes, creases, or dents to tarnish its spectacular appearance. I was particularly impressed by the bold, vivid colours that burst forth from the pages, drawing the reader into the eerie world Ito creates. This enchanting volume isn’t just a feast for the eyes; it feels like a treasure trove waiting to be explored. I believe this book would make a fantastic addition to the collection of any Junji Ito fan, adding both intrigue and aesthetic appeal to their library.

Ok! So, as always, Junji Ito makes amazing art and stories. Everything is great MINUS the fact that it seems like they're putting the same stories in these books. I'm pretty sure I've already read 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘸 𝘕𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘋𝘰𝘰𝘳 in one of his first collections. I was super excited to see its title in the table of contents, thinking it was a continuation of the story. Sadly, it's just a repost. I've noticed that in a lot of his newer collections. Its kinda misleading when the publisher uses "fresh stories" on the cover, when really, there's a few oldies thrown in. At least mention that as well...Anyway, still a great addition to my collection! My bookcase is starting to purely be Junji Ito works! It's getting outa hand!
