Can it be hung outdoors?

You can use outdoors, iron is hard to beat. Cast or wrought, the malleable metal is strong, this key is beautiful and heavy!

How heavy is it? My 8 year old son is obsessed with keys.

Hello, the big iron skeleton key is about 500g/1.1 pounds, and the small iron skeleton key is about 140g/0.3 pounds.

My key looks as if the coloring is coming off on the sides. Any ideas on how to make it look better?

With it being cast iron it will start tarnishing or popping off. You could use a paint like rustolium and paint it the color you want and it keeps it from rusting. They may have a clear, not sure. With cast iron pans I keep all my pans coated with lard. The company may have a better answer but hope this helps.
