Get Started in Hindi Absolute Beginner Course: (Book and audio support) (Teach Yourself Language)

This is a great introductory book to help you learn Hindi. Duolingo is excellent but it often doesn't explain things, it just asks you to learn them -- if you want a bit more context and explanation this is a great (and entertaining) option.

A very good book all round. More concise than the Complete Hindi book by the same author. I’d recommend brushing up on Devanāgarī beforehand because it isn’t covered in the book and will really help with pronunciation in the book. Some of the dialogues seem a little unnatural (I’ve never heard anyone introduce themselves with Srī) but nothing harmful. Overall this series (learning to read, get started and complete especially) are the best you’ll find for Hindi outside of an actual class (though these are used in the classrooms of the best Hindi classes too, such as SOAS).

I'm only a month into my study of Hindi but so far I'm very pleased with this method. I'm very busy and can only dedicate 20 minutes a day to language study, but I am thrilled that after only a few weeks I can understand a very simple spoken dialogue, I was also able to read a word or two of Hindi at the Indian embassy whiile queueing for my visa! Since learning another language was the last thing I thought I'd be doing at my age (60) I am extremely encouraged and sincerely hope I will persevere after my trip. The method is simple and direct and allows the student to make quick progress. I haven't given this purchase 5 stars because of a minor defect. The Hindi script in the book is tiny and difficult to read. I need a magnifying glass to identify the letters. That aside, I highly recommend this method.

It is too serious and the emphasis on the written language is daunting. I shall go back to it after I have acquired a better ear for the material

My first start with this book is really promising - looks excellent. I don't want to put people off the book with a negative review, but I am most frustrated that it specifically said a CD would come with the book and it hasn't, as one other recent customer has said. There isn't an obvious way of pointing this out to Amazon - either you get a refund or a replacement (which presumably wouldn't have one either), but I can't see a place for reporting it except here. The downloadable audio does seem to work reasonably well, although you need to download an app and its rating is just 2.5* which is not promising, but nonetheless I bought the book here specifically because it claimed to have a CD with it and not sending one is annoying.

Great book to get you started but there is some unclear bits that leave you guessing abit to start with. But generally it's has got me started. Overall its a great book.

Not much to say, except this book teaches Hindi in an efficient way. The audio CD is also super useful for listening practice (every resource should have one!)

Useful guide

En quelques semaines j'ai pu réellement abordé le Hindi et commencer à le parler. Livre très bien structuré. Les explications grammaticales sont simples et efficaces. Après chaque leçon il y a un lexique détaillé de tout le vocabulaire le concernant ainsi que des exercices et leur correction. De plus est associé au livre, gratuitement, la bande audio sur le site get started de tout le livre et ainsi apprivoiser la prononciation. Je suis convaincue de son efficacité.

La edición es de mala calidad y se ve fatal. Las explicaciones son claras y simpáticas. Pero en cada lección hay demasiada densidad de gramática y vocabulario y muy pocos ejercicios, así que se aprende todo de manera muy superficial, no se llega a interiorizar. El vocabulario hindi es un poco inventado, con muchos anglicismos. El audio se puede conseguir gratis en su web, pero los que hablan no son nativos y van rapidísimo, demasiado para un nivel inicial. Total, que no me gusta demasiado. Lo malo es que no hay más opciones.

Excelent! Best book to learn Hindi that I have ever bought. Content very didactic and easy to understand. I bought this book because of the good reviews in the comments and I can say that I did not regret it at all.

Great resource to learn Hindi from scratch. I have done a fast and huge progress by using this book!
