I have an old tripod. Can i use this to that? Is it compatible to different tripods or is it universal?

I had an older manfrotto tripod but it is not compatible with that The legs of the new one do not use clamps but have screw adjusted method of release. Also the plate that fixes the camera is a totally different type. So I would say that not in every case is this tripod compatible
