Multi-Sharp 1109 Blade Sharpener for Cylinder Lawn Mowers with 32-38 cm/14-15-Inch Cutting Width

Fantastic piece of kit,so easy to setup and use .My cylinder mower blades had never been sharpened i was quoted £40 by lawnmower service engineer so thought i would give this a try,so glad i did blades now sharp and cut perfectly and to top it off theres enough strips to sharpen at least another three times.Well Pleased.

I bought this for use on a Qualcast CX30 which is about 20 years old. The blades have not been sharpened before but were in fair condition having no serious damage but pitted by rust. A cylinder mower cuts with a scissor action between the blade and back plate and one way to sharpen them is to use grinding paste and rub blade and backplate together, this takes forever so I bought this sharpener thinking it may not be perfect but it may be good enough. I was pleasantly surprised, fitting to the back plate was easy and the abrasive paper did the job very quickly. I bought spare abrasive because I thought it might wear or tear quite quickly, in fact one sheet did the job very well. I recommend this product if you want to clean up the blades on a 30cm (12inch) cylinder mower.

The tool is a great design, very simple but very effective and easy to fit. Just adjust the cylinder blade up away from the bottom blade, slide the sharpener onto the bottom blade and slowly re-adjust the cylinder until it contacts the sharpener. Taking time to lightly skim the surface of the cylinder gave a much sharper edge to the cylinder blade and a greatly improved cut. I am grateful for the previous reviews, the holding screws are pretty flimsy so I would recommend tightening them with care. (That said, they don't need to be tightened hard, the profile of the tool has a ridge underneath which seats against the bottom fixed blade and the rotation of the cylinder against the abrasive then holds the tool firmly in place.) The abrasive strips are self adhesive. Once stuck to the tool only a narrow strip comes into contact with the cylinder and is worn down. I was able to easily peel off the abrasive and reapply it to the tool before reusing it, but I would suggest you remember to do this before storing it and the adhesive fully hardens. After the initial sharpening I imagine the worn abrasive would last 5-10 more times honing an edge, I might even try a finer grade of abrasive when next I use it.

Why did you choose this product over others?: I chose this product over others because frankly, there's not a lot of choice in this market. It kinda sharpens the cylinder blade but it's not as good as actually taking the cylinder out to be machine sharpened, and not as good as back-lapping.

Along with the Qualcast Panther push mower I bought, this sharpening tool is the best bit ff kit I've ever bought. Why?, because the technology involved on both is very simple,built to last, and simple works! The key with this sharpening tool is to take your time to fit it correctly and adjust the blade plate height accordingly to sharpen them. Instructions are clear enough. Once you've done it once it really is a 5 minute job to do it again for further sharpenings. After sharpening the blades with this thing it was like having a brand new mower again! I've still got the other two strips left for next time as well. Brilliant bit of kit that I thoroughly recommend! Price is fair enough as well. You'll be amazed at how good a job this tool does.

Despite following instructions and pre-curving it before sticking it down it just wouldn't lie flat and in the end it peeled off without any use at all. Completely wasted. In the end had to use a combination of some other glues until the next one stayed on. As for the actual sharpening, it may have taken longer than some of the other reviewers mainly because the cylinder needed constant adjustments for the sharpener to make contact with entire length of blades. I kept going until I could see each blade was shiny silver but there was an occasional black streak or two which just wouldn't shift. However, afterwards when cutting the grass the mower felt a lot easier to handle than before and rather than tearing it seemed to leave the lawn with a cleaner and more even cut than before. Hence the four stars.

Seemed like a good idea at the time. I had to cut this item down to size...which was really easy with a hacksaw on the aluminium. I then cut down the abrasive strip with scissors to fit the aluminium rail and stuck it on. (So far so good). I then fit it to the bottom of my Concorde 32. It was easy to adjust up the blades then fit the item flush up to the bottom cutting blade. The problem then came when I tried to screw up the PLASTIC screws to nip the item up firmly into its place. I only nipped the screw up with my finger and thumb (as not big enough to do anything else). One nipped up fine and the other one just easily sheared right off. So I never even got to try this at all. Would have been better if it came with a more fit for purpose metal screws. Why plastic to hold something tight to a metal item that you are about to switch on and rub rotary blades over is a mystery to me. Also this item only came with 2 strips to use , not 3 as it stated. I did wonder if I could return it as I didn't feel it was fit for purpose....however as I was very ill for a while and had bad weather...by the time I came to use it and realised it was no good. ..I was over the allowed time anyway to even deal with the enquiry and it is now just stuck in my cupboard unused. Although not too expensive ....I do think this may have been a better item if supplied with metal fittings to secure instead of plastic ones. If I had a big strong husband to fit it ...I would've probably blamed him for the screw breaking off and I would have said he had been too rough with it. LOL. However I fit this and took little effort to snap the screw right off. Sorry I don't recommend this ..not from my experience.

Very good and effective. No need for compounds to brush on and then need to clean off.

No merece la pena, no es sencillo de montar, se desencaja con facilidad, no afila lo esperado... Al final me he comprado pasta para afilar, máis fácil y mejor resultado.
