Is the flashlight turned on with the tail switch only?

Yes, it can. I have several of the Sofirn Tactical lights( SP35t, SC31T, C8L) I love using the on/off switch on the tail of the flashlight then adjusting the brightness with the side button.

Does this sofirn sp35t have ramping capablity?

No ramp mode. Only stepped or tactical. Tactical mode is med or high only. Side plus tail switch goes direct to lowest setting. Double click tail from off for direct turbo. Double click side when on for direct turbo.
