How do I know when the battery is fully charged on my new device?

The light will go out when it is fully charged, it takes a few hours. Reset the app a couple times and it will show you that the battery is at a 100% on the GPS.

Is there a way to improve battery life by changing the interval at which the GPS information is sourced (having a longer standby time between reads)?

Hello, The Standby mode is automatic after 5 minutes of inactivity. Sadly, it can't be changed if you are on movement, we can change the frequency of the refreshing rate. If you need this change, please contact us throw our official help channels. Thank you. SALIND Customer Support.

Ok.

Saludos.
