Does this really work or just another gimmic

It's really good! Silicea Cold sore lip gel is a natural-acting formulation used to treat cold sores. The active ingredient is silica gel (silicic acid gel), a compound formed from silica and water. The gel binds cold sore secretions to the gel, drying out blisters helping the symptoms of cold sores, and inhibiting the spread of the virus.

Is this meant to be a clear gel? Mine has yellow bits in it?

I think it is clear, but may have some more solid bits, depending on the temperature and how old the tube is. I don't recall it being yellow.

Do you wash it off or just keep applying on top? Am at scab stage?

I leave it then wipe it off gently by dabbing with warm water on toilet roll or a flannel (then washing it after). I alternate between this and the bonjella coldsore cream throughout the day to add a little moisture
