Can it replace the standard, paper insert type filter that goes inside the plastic housing on 2008 vw golf mk5 gti with 2.0tfsi bwa engine?

This is a metal canister type filter. I had a MK5 Golf before my Audi A3 and it had a plastic housing which contained a paper insert and it was completely different to this type of filter, so I would say no.
