Excellent Addition to Weather Station
This is the second rain gauge I have bought; the first was destroyed by a Tesco delivery van. The previous unit has worked well for a couple of years and is an excellent addition to my weather station. I am not sure of the absolute accuracy, but it is a reliable indicator if the rain is very heavy or light. Simple and robust construction - but I recommend installation away from rogue delivery vehicles.

A good addition to a great Weather Station
I bought this along with the wind gauge and the weather station so it was a pretty expensive gamble that I liked it. As it turns out, this gauge is a great addition to the weather station ownership. It's easy to set up/calibrate, but, the battery compartment isn't that good. Given the attention to detail of the wind gauge and the outdoor module, this is harder to get into to add the batteries. The instructions tell you to twist the base and it'll come open. It doesn't do this easily at all. It could just be stiff due to being new, perhaps. This aside, I added the gauge to the system, calibrated it with 100ml of water, and then mounted it to a fence post with a cheap CCTV mount. This was all done in the space of about 10 mins (with a further 10 mins trying to get into the battery compartment!). Once it was setup and in place, I then went into the web admin page, into the settings panel, and deleted the recent rain count (from the calibration stage) and it was all good to go. It's been accurate so far and the radio signal seems pretty strong. The weather station isn't in-sight of the gauge, and a fair distance away, so it's pretty good. No idea on battery life yet, but it claims around a year which is pretty good for 2 AA batteries.

Excellent addition to my weather station
Excellent addition to my weather station. Finding a place to mount the gauge was the most difficult part! It needs to be clear of anything that may cause a 'rain-shadow', trees, houses, fences etc and within range of the base unit. In the end I installed a post in the middle of the garden that positions the gauge in clear space and above all planting. Seems to work a treat. Make sure you install the gauge absolutely level as the tipper mechanism relies on this. Basically the funnel takes the water to a tipping bucket switch in the centre of the unit, when the little bucket is full, it tips to the side and the second bucket fills up, empties and then repeats itself. I think each "tip" of the bucket indicates 0.3mm of rainfall.

Does Not Work - Dead on Arrival
Got a Netatmo weather station last year for xmas, excellent kit works well no problems. Added the Anenometer and Rain Guage this year, big mistake. The cosmetic quality and feel was very good, these are expensive items but neither "add on" worked. The rain guage just would not connect to the weather station no matter what I did so waste of time and money straight off there. The Anenometer connected to the base station and worked OK but constantly reported a flat battery (despite trying new batteries several times including the factory fitted ones) the sensor was not working. This means that the thing emails every half an hour demanding the battery is changed ASAP. So most of Xmas day was spent by me climbing ladders and faffing about with these items pointlessly, my wife didn't get her Xmas present, returning both to Amazon who "cannot replace them" and will refund the cash. Both of these items dead on arrival with critical faults looks suspicious to me, purporting to be quality "smart" devices the ones I got are bug ridden rubbish and wasted a lot of my time and patience. I won't be buying anything from this bunch of clowns again.

Nice to have
I was disappointed with this. It works as expected, but it's vital that you calibrate it. Even after calibrating, the results are a bit difficult to trust. Is 1mm/hour a lot or a little? Also - not Netatmo's fault - a lot of the accuracy relies on positioning. Ideally, you'd put it above ground with no trees or walls nearby, but not all of us are so lucky! I use it mainly to pick up the data from its API, but Netatmo could do a lot more with it (the rain alert is always delayed, and it only measures rainfall per hour, not immediately). It's also overpriced.

Works well...
I wanted to expand my Netatmo Weather Station for Smartphones by adding a rain gauge, an important features lacking from the basic weather station kit. Like other products from Netatmo it arrived very well packaged and presented almost as an Apple product in a heavy duty and up market white box with elaborate packaging within but an annoying minimalist User Guide. As you would expect it of course is fully weather proof with the two supplied AAA batteries inserted into a waterproof housing within the unit. Installing the unit is easy enough and performed using the mobile phone app - be sure to follow the instructions carefully and in the right order. Don't remove the battery protection tape which powers the Rain Gauge until the instructions say or it may not register, as I discovered. The registration process needs to be performed close to the Netatmo Base Station but once this is done the Rain Gauge can be moved outside. I was surprised how strong the link is between the rain gauge, outside monitoring unit and the base station - this is indicated on your weather station control page accessed with your web browser - and despite the stone wells of my house I was able to set in the back garden about 15 yards from the Base Station. Mounting the unit can be a problem as it needs to be positioned level and in a location away from trees or anything that may keep the rain off. There is a standard tripod female screw mount on the base so a tripod could be used. In the event I used gaffa tape to secure mine to the top of a bird feeder pole making sure to keep the drain holes on the base of the Rain Gauge open. Another cheap option would be to use a selfie stick- many of which have a screw mount on the end - pushed into the earth with the Rain Gauge on top. The Rain Gauge is made of plastic and pretty lightweight so a sturdy mount is needed to keep it securely in place when the wind blows. My gauge has been running now for about two weeks with no issues and seems to be working well. There are other users of the Netatmo system nearby and I see their rainfall readings are similar to mine. This is a useful, if not essential, addition to the Netato system and once set up it works very well. The Good Easy to setup Attractive design Well packaged Functions well Low maintenance The Bad Expensive No mount supplied Poor documentation Lightweight so needs a secure mount

Loving the rain!
I bought this to go with the Netatmo weather station the good lady of the house bought me for xmas. Fitting the rain gauge onto a bracket was a doddle, within the rain gauge on the base is two small screw holes in which you can screw down the gauge onto some wood or use the standard camera screw fitting which secures it in the centre. A quick calibration check which again I found easy enough following the instructions within the app and it was sited, fitted and working. 1 month on and I have had no problems at all and based on rainfall results from other weather stations in my area I would say accurate. The gauge appears to be very well made and easy to take apart for cleaning.
