I love!
I love this notebook! The b5 is perfect for me, and the lay flat design actually does lay flat! The paper is lovely and light but also smooth, and I’m left handed and write with a rollerball. v. Little smudging, although that likely my choice of pen/ink. The book itself is quite light. I recommend!

Absolutely fantastic
Great notebook! The paper is really pleasant to wrote on and the lines aren't too dark that they over power anything written in pencil. It's also light weight despite being large so it's easy to carry around everyday.10/10 will be buying another when this one is finished, as well as keeping an eye out for more of their products.

Disappointing
Bought this on recommendation. Nice journal but unfortunately, contrary to what I'd been told, it doesn't handle fountain pen ink or mildliners well. Both bleed through. Also the date/day combination printed at the top of each page is feint and quite small and difficult to highlight easily.

Not suitable for delivery without packaging!
These notebooks are brilliant but…a £30 notebook was delivered in supplier packaging only - a very thin film only that split resulting in dirt on the item and the notebook itself damaged just from landing on a corner on the floor through my letterbox. Not using additional packaging is a great if the item is protected.

Excellent quality paper in a very good notebook
I've been buying several notebooks recently, most of them made with Tomoe River paper, so let me make this clear at the start ..........The Stalolgy paper isn't quite as good as TR but it's pretty close in quality. There, I could probably stop the review right now ........My usual practice is to test a page at the back of a new notebook for writing properties and I only use fountain pens to write with. I used a range of nibs, from M to BB and OBB and with one exception (a 1.1mm stub inked with Iroshizuku fuyu-gake) there was no show-through and absolutely no bleed-through.Most of the pens are currently inked with Iroshizuku although the test pens also contained Montblanc, Sailor and De Atramentis inks. (What can I say? I tend to keep quite a few pens inked at any one time :) ) There wasn't quite as much shading as I'd expect to see on Tomoe River but the inks all looked good, with true colours, and drying times seemed to me to be slightly faster than on TR paper.I've recently discovered my perfect notebook, which is reviewed elsewhere. But this one contains good quality paper, a lot of pages, and has a decent soft cover. It doesn't lay flat easily although a bit of pressure on the spine should resolve that, and it doesn't contain niceties such as elastic closure, ribbon marker or a back pocket. What it does do is offer a lot of good quality pages (did I already mention that?) at a good price. Highly recommended.

One of its kind for this size
Though far more reviews have been written about the B6 or A6 size of this book as a comparison to the Tomoe River-filled Hobonichi techos, I think the B5 version of this notebook stands alone as I could not find any competing offerings in the B5 size category with a similarly high page-count and gridded FP ink-tolerant paper. I use this as a laboratory notebook and find the relatively unobstructive grid layout practical for my purposes. The book lays (almost) perfectly flat once you first break-in the spine. The corners of the paper are rounded off, which is a nice quality touch. The paper itself has a funny smell to it—not so much so as to be bothersome, but noteworthy nonetheless. The date function at the top of the page is printed so small and faint that it isn't the easiest to read, but thankfully with all the B5 page real estate, you can write the date yourself without worrying about wasting a line. My biggest gripe about the layout is the lack of page numbers. I wish everyone would put page numbers! Now for the paper: The #1 question people have surrounding this notebook is whether or not Stalogy paper = TR paper. It isn't, but it's close. It would be more accurate to say that Stalogy paper ~ TR paper. It is similarly thin, and takes any fountain pen ink I have thrown at it without feathering, but it does show-through, especially with darker, more saturated inks. I only experienced a small patch of actual bleed-through once with a particularly wet pool of Colorverse Quasar, but this is the exception rather than the norm. Dry times on Stalogy are quicker than on TR, so these notebooks might be an ideal choice for left-handed writers. TR paper aficionados will find that Stalogy flattens certain inks a little bit. Quasar still sheened a fair bit, but RO Fire and Ice lost its 'fire' to become simply a turquoise. If TR paper is a 5/5, then Stalogy paper would be a 4.5/5, but since the market is relatively devoid of B5 Tomoe River notebooks, I would definitely recommend this as a suitable alternative. If anyone reading this happens to be a fellow scientist, this makes a fantastic laboratory notebook with its vast page count and practical/portable B5 size. It lays more than flat enough to stay open on the bench, despite being a softcover book. Just know that you will have to number your own pages.
