Perfect for the job in hand.
Keep a 6 metre boat with two 50HP engines on a trailer in a corner of the garden over the winter, it is on a slight slope and access by car is very limited. At the start of the new season manually pulling the boat out is proving difficult as I get older, however it is really simple with this winch. I just park my car at the top of the slight incline, attach this winch to the car tow bar using the supplied adapter plate and wire it to a spare 12 volt car battery. Hey presto it pulls the boat out without issue, it will only be used a couple of times a year but for the price it is hard to beat.

Does the job
Slow and noisey but works perfectly for pulling the caravan up a sloped drive, an addition i made was a universal remote control from amazon the reciever box fit inside the casing fine, and means i can be at the other end to steer as i winch

Great winch but quality suspect
A great looking useful winch. Sadly on its first use the 12 volt connections were loose/broken preventing a constant electrical connection. Winch was returned for refund

Be really careful to ensure the cable is straight during operation
You've got to be REALLY careful to keep the cable straight as it winds/unwinds, otherwise the cable will lodge itself between the casing and the pressure plate. I've done this twice - the first time, the pressure plate broke. The second time, it got stuck and is impossible to un-lodge. In saying that, for the price it does it's job well so I've just ordered my third one.

Seems to work exactly as it should
Purchased to pull my 15' open sailer on to the back of the car up a ramp if necessary. Unfortunately the bolts to fit the tow hitch bracket were not included, which was disappointing, but otherwise the unit seems to work well and very easily. I have tested it extensively at home and can't fault it. It will be used next week in anger for the first time, but no reason to assume any issues. Great unit, especially at the price.

used three times now just a paper weight
I wrote to the seller asking about the screw or bolt marked as 11 on the instructions. With out this screw or bolt the winch assembly can not be fitted to a boat trailer winch post. This is the sellers reply. "Good morning I have looked at the product and the parts list and I can confirm that these are not included. I have checked other stock and they are all the same with the screw, nut and bolt not being included. Kind regards JR Tools " The seller advertise the winch as a boat winch but with out this screw or bolt it can not be used as a boat winch. Is there a case of miss selling this item as being a boat winch? I have sourced nuts and bolts that are flat enough to allow me to fit the winch to the boat trailer winch post. This is not a boat winch. Hello Robert, We have been in touch with the manufacturer regarding your query to see which specific fittings we would need to find for you. They have advised that there is such a huge variation in what is required to fit the product depending on the intended usage, that there are literally hundreds of different screws, nuts and bolts that could be required. They have advised that we should not attempt to supply these fittings to you as we could not be confident that they are the right ones for the purposes that you require. The manufacturer has advised that it is for this reason that the product does not come with these fittings, which are specifically not included in the product details or description. The fittings that you require will be specific to the item that you are fitting the winch onto, rather than being specific to the winch itself. If you review the customer questions and answers regarding this product, you can see that it is being used in a wide variety of situations, each of which the customer would have had to use different fittings for. The manufacturer advises that you will not find this item listed for sale with screw, nut and bolt, as it would be impossible to know which of these would be required. Based on this we can confirm that we have advertised and described the product accurately in accordance with the manufacturer instructions. We trust this addresses your enquiry fully. Kind regards JR Tools It seems to be far to complicated a thing to find out which nut and bolt would fit the winch assembly for a boat trailer winch post. So this item is not a boat winch as it is currently being advertised. Edit. After modifying my boat trailer winch post to fit the winch I've used it to recover my boat onto it's trailer. The trailer has rollers not skids. The winch struggles to drag the boat onto it's trailer even when 50% of the boat is still floating. The winch is very heavy on battery use, just one recovery drained a large leisure battery that was fully charged before use. The way this winch works I am struggling to believe the claims made by the advertising. I can not recommend buying this winch. Well the winch has now failed and no longer works it failed on it's third use. The winch handle has rounded and is now useless. I have contacted the seller and I got a "we'll look into this" reply I have now lost all confidence in this item to do the job.

Toolzone 12V Electric Boat Winch
The winch performs exactly as specified and in fact might pull more than the weight specified. I use it to pull a boat (Orkney type) and trailer up a steep jetty. It is slow - but a lot better than ending up with the car in the sea. The instructions don't appear to show you how to let out the cable, but it's easy to work out (slacken off the knob under the winding handle), then when the cable is out to the correct length, tighten up the knob and start winching.
