The Manga Guide to Biochemistry

I would recommend this illustrated book to anyone who is curious in science, biochemistry, nutrition, and general chemistry. It is a fun introduction to Biochemistry. It's very well paced with easy to understand material. The later section can get a little more complicated, but it is not unapproachable.As a biochemist, I used this book as a fun refresher. I would also recommend this book any high school or college student who wants to get into biochemistry or learn more about nutrition.

Just got it a couple days ago. I have my degree in biochemistry so it is always nice to go back and review different concepts and the story-based way they do it in this book is pretty cool. I'm also a huge manga/anime fan. Obviously it won't replace an actual biochemistry textbook and doesn't have as much chemistry as I would like(nor would I expect it to, although it covers a bit of organic chem) but it's it would be a great addition to anybody's collection; from a young child to a college graduate. Looking forward to buying the other animated guides such as the molecular biology and the calculus one once I have enough money saved up.

Fun way to learn Biochemistry concepts. Even if you're not a biochem student, this book could benefit anyone because it covers important concepts relating to nutrition and health. Starts off with the absolute basics and gets progressively more detailed. At the end of each chapter, there is a short textbook-like section. This book goes into more depth, is more technical and is more dense than I expected. I only bought this for fun but I will need to take biology in the future, so I'm sure this info will come in handy.

As a senior biochemistry undergrad who likes Japanese culture, I was immediately interested in this book. It mostly met my expectations for a cute presentation of a complex scientific subject.I could say that it presents a simplistic view of the subject, but that's through the eyes of a student about to earn his bachelor's in this science. From the standpoint of a high school student or beginning college student, this book provides an excellent overview of the subject. The student will retain foundational concepts after reading this, i.e. the four classes of macromolecules and the concept of metabolic chemical reactions. The immediate application of each concept to a real-life example will aid retention, as will the little bit of cute humor and low-key romance :)The story itself isn't super-dramatic or risque, but that's certainly a good thing; such would be distracting from the educational value of the comic.I highly recommend this book to any high school students or undergrads who haven't learned biochemistry in any depth yet. For an educated student and above, it'll be a fun review.

I had been having trouble in Bio recently and when I looked up this book I wondered if it would help. After I got it, I started to get the concepts much better. Manga-lovers should definitely get this book. Overall, great book.

this book presents a complicated subject in a very fun and approachable fashion. If you enjoy manga or comics and have to have biochemistry get this book before you take the class!
