I have this old deadblow mallet that was handed down by my late father. He’d spent his life as a machinist, and though he sold all his equipment before passing, he kept this. As a child, I remember playing around with it in his shop, and watching him smack around his Bridgeport. The only markings on it are K*G30 (the * is actually a squished 6-pointed star) and its vintage metallic grey paint job was all but chipped away. The handle is identical to Halder mallets and the main body of the head is 1.18”. I wanted to put this mallet into my own rotation, but the heads were just too mangled, embedded with metal chips, and barely hanging on. So, I figured I’d give this “3508.030 Supercraft 1.18” head a try. It’s a perfect fit! The head itself feels incredibly solid, but still with a little give. I’ve beaten on it pretty hard already and it doesn’t show a lick of wear. If you look at my pic, you’ll see I only ordered one - that’s for two reasons. 1) they’re 1/3 the cost of just getting a new mallet, so I really couldn’t justify getting 2 and not just replacing the whole thing, and 2) leaving one of the original heads is a nice reminder of my father using this day in and day out. After a little bit of clean up, I happy to have this tool on my workbench.
