Netherlands - Culture Smart!

One day I intend to go for the Dutch residents permit. To qualify for that, not only do you have to pass a Dutch language test but also know a decent amount about Dutch culture and the way the country works. I'm hoping this small tome will give me everything I need to know. So far I've found it very engaging and easy to read - but will I remember it all?!

Hi, I've started using the Culture Smart series of books at a time when I needed to understand better the Swedish culture for personal reasons. I was very impressed at how insightful the book was. Since then, I have relied on the series anytime I need to learn more about the traditions and mindsets found in a country. I will be moving to the Netherlands in a few months' time and have used this book as a prep. I found that the habits described in the book match very accurately the outlook of several of my Dutch friends. All in all, I found this a great tool for anyone planning to spend some time in the Netherlands, or simply looking to improve his/her relationships with the Dutch. I hope this helps.

I have just purchased and read this book and predict that it will become the "must have" read for visitors and those considering relocating to the Netherlands. The author includes so much information and essential knowledge for those wanting to know how to behave and interact with the Dutch people.It is amazing how much the customs vary throughout Europe and the Netherlands is one of those countries where you really must know the right way to communicate in order to integrate successfully. I congratulate the author for making this such an easy and informative read and I highly recommend it to anyone considering "going Dutch"!!

Being Dutch myself, I did think it was all a bit obvious. More of a general 'How to behave' - guide, than a description of the Netherlands.

Getting ready to spend some time in the Netherlands and bought this on impulse. It had a ton of useful info and facts. Maybe too much, it was rather overwhelming lol. The history section was boring, but I have the attention span of a fruit fly, and I understand why it's important.

This is a good book for finding out generalities about Dutch culture and customs. The book is written more particularly from a British perspective--and the author seems a bit uncomfortable with some of her subject matter, such as sexuality. Howeer, it is informative and interesting and easy to read through. There is some very good information and some good details and anecdotes, as well.

Review of the book "Netherland - Culture Smart! The essential guide to the Netherlands. The book arrived after being or order for about 10 days. It was in superb condition. It is providing me good information on this beautiful country that I'm looking forward to visiting in the very near future.

This book is business, but not tourist focused. Although some interesting insights. Should be updated more frequently and should include Dutch word pronunciations.

I think the author could've fit more information into this book. However, it accomplishes its goal to be concise and to the point. This isn't going to make you an instant expert on the Netherlands, but it definitely clears things up regarding social behavior and background. I would advise re-reading this during a trip to the Netherlands and/or after. There are a few generalized explanations that will go over your head until you experience them in person. My Dutch partner read parts of this too, and agreed it described him perfectly.
