Good Looking, but hard to live with.
I purchased the pen as a replacement for a very similar styled pen and was initially very pleased with the overall look and feel of the pen. It is quite heavy, and I would definately use this with the cap off the back of the pen to reduce the weight. I can't say I was over impressed with the weave pattern which was just a tight tinned weave similar to that found in coaxial cables. However it does add to the style of the pen, and I guess was what attracted me to the pen in the first place. I gave this a one star rating because the writing ability of this pen is so bad. It is scratchy, and has intermittant ink flow at all times. I am aware that fountain pens can be a little sensitive to paper types, so I carried out tests on all sorts of paper, but to no avail, it didn't perform well on any. I did persevere to try and get the pen to bed in, but in the end I had to accept defeat and return the pen. I replaced it with a Parker of slightly less cost, and the difference is amazing with no ink flow problems on any papers I have tried. Overall, I can't offer a good recommendation for this as a operational writing tool, but it would look good as part of a non operational collection.

Disappointed.
I found the design this pen rather crude, unsophisticated and a bit vulgar. Though I must say it writes well. I originally wanted a Parker but couldn't find anyone who could supply the model I wanted in a short time. I would advise anyone buying such a personal thing should try to see what it's like in real life and not be influenced by an adverts description.

Oh dear!
When mine arrived it was broken. The pommel on the cap had sheared off which meant it was impossible to cap the pen. The supplier replaced it straight away and the replacement worked ... but I am singularly unimpressed with the quality.

To be honest this is not the best looking pen,the steel weave is interesting. That said,it writes really well and is a well balenced pen,it feels good when you use it.It flows lighter than the pen looks. It took longer than I thought for the ink to get going but once it kicks in it delivers a good writing performence. The smart leather case is a good touch too.I have not used a fountain pen for years favouring the old pc to compose letters.Having just wrote my first letter with my new pen though it gave me a special thrill to see even my scrawl take on a warm glow,as I gave thought to what I had to write.Go on treat yourselves.

Good Stuff!!
Really liked the look of this pen with its steel weave finish but having read bad reports of arbutus pens elsewhere was unsure about ordering one. But having read the positive reviews here, I went ahead and ordered one, and am really glad I did. its a really good bit of kit it writes really well is nicely weighted and well balanced in the hand and it looks the business. All I would say is if your thinking of buying one go for it! you wont regret it.

Fantastic quality pen
I was amazed at the quality of this pen! I bought it because it looked a lot like the Porsche one that I first fell in love with but couldn't justify the price of, and trusted the other two reviews here. They're spot on. It's very solid, holds beautifully in the hand (is substantial but balanced and not overweight), and the lid clips on to the end when you write without scratching anything. Pop the cartridge (the international short variety) in and I'm not kidding, it started writing straight away! I've been through some more expensive fountain pens recently that are a huge pain in the posterior to get going, and then get blocked after a day of non-writing. Not so with this one. I can't recommend it highly enough. Writing is fluid, smooth, not scratchy although it is a fine nib. Instantly my handwriting was improved with this pen, as it does with a fountain pen as opposed to a Bic. If I had to find something negative about it, I'd only say that I'd like the lid more substantial in thickness and the clip a bit more interesting. The lid does twist on and off of the pen though and is very secure. Comes in a nice leather case, and with a nice black presentation box.
