The Ultimate Guide to Tarot Card Meanings

This book is much bigger and more comprehensive than I thought it would be. Yet it is also very user friendly, simple and easy to use. The author has explained the card so that we can better understand why and how it can be interpreted the way it has been, which really helps with understanding and recall. Then she goes on to expand on each and every card to cover what is could mean if pulled for career, personality type, love, spirituality, health and in general. There are also meanings for reversed cards and possible combinations eg: the page of cups coupled (excuse the pun!) with the Empress could mean a pregnancy. I have dabbled with the tarot for 20 years but never actually learned it as my memory for straight memorization is dreadful. Yet this books helps you to understand, not just memorize and that's a big difference. Finally I can see a day when I won't need to look up the meanings but in the meantime this book has everything I need to both learn the tarot, understand it and do a good reading. I have got the 3rd edition and the quality of the book itself is absolutely fine. I would definitely recommend it for all budding tarot readers.

I’ve been searching around for ages to find a decent tarot book that’s in-depth, easy to read. Well I’ve finally found it with this book ! It covers everything you need to know. I’ve attached some photos so you can see how in-depth it is per card.

Absolutely love this book. I really resonated with the card interpretations that are in this book. My belief is that there are no "bad" cards, every card serves a positive intention and help us in some way. This book reflects that belief as well. Interpretations are empowering, eye opening and helpful. Inside is black and white pictures for each card with Keywords, Quotes, Descriptions, Upright and Reversed card meanings. Also, General meaning, meaning focused on the Career, Work and Finances, Personality Types, Relationship and Love, Spirituality, Well-being and Health. It contains the Journaling prompts for each card that help to reflect on the cards and understand their meanings at much deeper level. It also has some Suggested 2 card combinations to show how energy of this card could be blended together with energy of other cards. Besides tarot meanings it also contains a quick numerology guide, Reversed cards interpretation ideas and a chapter on how to read tarot for yourself. Before having a physical book, I had a PDF version, but wanted to have a physical book so I can use it as a reference. It is very good as a reference book. I have been using Biddy Tarot's website for interpreting my tarot cards for the past 4 years, so I was delighted to now be able to have an actual book version of the meanings. The issues with the design and light print that I saw in other comments must have been dealt with because the copy I received was of good quality paper and dark readable print. Yes it is in black and white, but as the book is already quite an expensive purchase, printing it in colour would have made the cost prohibitive for most people. I don't use the Rider tarot set anyway, so for me the pictures are irrelevant because it is the words that I want. It is a large book (450 pages) and you do get a lot of value for your money. There are between 3-5 pages of text for each card. The amount of information in the book is considerably more than that which available on the website. I also like that as well as a general interpretation, each card is broken down into interpretations for different types of readings (such as work/career, relationship, well-being and health, personality and spiritual readings etc) because it helps to focus the reading more clearly. I also have found the 'card combinations' a useful feature, to show how the suggestions of each card in conjunction with other cards can enhance the focus of a meaning. There is the same infortmation for reversed cards too. I like that the name of each card is clearly printed on the top right of each page as this makes it easy to locate a particular card when riffling through the book. It is helping me to understand the order they come in too. As yet, I have only done readings for myself and family but I'm aiming to take part in the next Tarot course Biddy is running, to help me develop my skills further. Overall I would say this is an excellent book and has helped me to increase the depth and accuracy of my readings enormously.

I wish I'd purchased this book before the many tarot books I've purchased over the years. I used to use the biddy tarot site when I didn't quite understand the cards and having the descriptions in a book form is perfect for me. I much prefer a book to a website. I use this book every day as part of my daily practice. I feel like I'm finally learning the meanings of the cards. I enjoy that the reverse meanings have more information than most books I've read before. I highly recommend this boom if you're trying to improve your understanding of the tarot.

This is a large book, it’s heavy and packed full of information. As others have said it’s slightly let down by the lack of colour in the illustrations of the cards. The colouring is a vague grey colour, I think I’ve been somewhat lucky in that the print in my book was dark enough to read easily, others have not been so lucky. Whilst it’s very informative and extremely useful, don’t assume it’s everything you need to know. I own 13 or 14 books now and I have gotten something new or a different perspective from all of them even if it’s a little idea or opinion. It’s worth having but it’s not the bible of tarot.

If you want to learn tarot, buy this book! It has multiple pages worth of information about each of the 78 tarot cards. Only down side is there is no information on tarot speads so if that's the information you're looking for then this isn't the book for you. Other than that, this book is fantastic!

I have the 2017 edition of this book (hence the different cover) and I have to say it's a brilliant guide to tarot cards and their meanings. This book gives any reader, amateur or professional, great insight and a strong foundation into how each card can be read, without confining the subjective art to constraints of right or wrong. Every card is listed, with often a five page spread detailing General meaning, Career, Personality types, Relationships, Spiritality, Health and key card combinations. It also includes one page for each on reverse meaning. Clearly organised by Arcana and suits, it's a hands reference guide perfect for studying intently or dipping into when you feel the need. As well as this, the binding is of good, firm construction, without being too hefty. Definitely a recommended product!

I am so impressed by this guide. I thought it was a little pricey and held off on getting it for a while because of that. I am so glad I finally pulled the trigger though because it's everything I wanted and more. I'm no longer scouring the internet for my card's meaning because the one in my smaller book didn't feel like it captured the nuance, or didn't include the reversed meaning, or didn't feel like it applied to my situation. This book is incredibly easy to navigate and find the card you're looking for. Each entry is SO in-depth and fully comprehensive. I will often read card meanings online and be like "well I don't think that fully captures everything this card wants to say," and I'd be back and forth between websites to get a comprehensive meaning that feels applicable. I ended up defaulting to Biddy Tarot online because I liked those descriptions best. This book seems to go beyond what's on the website, and every card's entry feels like it has ALL the information and every aspect of the meaning included. On top of that, I am always impressed by the wisdom in each meaning and the expertise of the author's interpretation. It truly feels like advice from a wise elder who knows you deeply and knows what you need better than you do. Every time. Plus, having it in my hands is such a relief because I can flip between pages quickly and even hold them with a bookmark if I'm doing a more robust reading, instead of scouring multiple sites on the internet and keeping track of my 10 tabs of each card's meaning. The book is much bigger than I expected, in size and thickness, but it is light as well, which makes it really satisfying to pick up and flip through when you need some tarot insight. Every time I use this guide, it makes me want to do more readings just to experience the book again. My readings since using this book have become *scary* accurate - applicable to what I'm facing in the moment, specific to the question I'm asking, and imparting the wisdom that I need to hear. I cannot recommend it enough.

I've read a LOT of Tarot books. A lot. I've read this one so many times that it literally fell into pieces and I had to repair it, haha. This book is one of those I still read today (many years after having bought it) for further insights and that had a HUGE impact on my practice development: it helped me to develop a much more nuanced interpretation of my tarot readings; for myself first, and now for my clients. I have an approach that my clients find very interesting and thought-provoking, even with deep or difficult subjects or life situations. We have transformative consultations together, and this book had its implication with where I am today with my practice. Brigit has its unique way to help you interpreting cards in a holistic, kind, and brilliant viewpoint. If you want to learn reversals interpretations without being in a "black and white" perspective, read this book. Reversals aren't just "the negative", the "opposite" or just "the shadow" part of the upright card. There are many categories for possible different interpretations, few cards combinations interpretations per card, journaling prompts in questions forms... A pearl. To read and to re-read, again and again. There is always medicines and solutions to find, even with "difficult" cards or inconfortable readings, and Brigit proposes this idea very well in her book, to look further and to switch your outlook. This book is in my SURE top 5 of Tarot interpretations books. I don't have a lot of Tarot books I would recommand like The Ultimate Guide to Tarot Card Meanings; I’ve recommended this book several times, for beginners to more advanced tarot practitioners. Acheté en format Kindle, la traduction via Kindle est bien fichue mais sinon c'est écrit assez simplement. J'ai pris plusieurs livres dans ce format concernant le Rider Waite et tous m'ont semblé insipides par rapport à celui-ci. Ici, Brigit Esselmont détaille chaque carte dans sa scène, le symbolisme, puis un descriptif général ; ensuite, chaque carte est expliquée selon sa position (droite ou renversée). Il y a un paragraphe pour le sentimental, un autre pour les finances/carrière, pour la personnalité, puis un autre pour le spirituel, et un autre plus court concernant la santé et le bien-être. La carte propose aussi quelques questions intéressantes, une sorte d'invitation à nous poser les bonnes questions, pour la croissance personnelle comme par exemple pour le 7 d'Epée : "en qui ai-je confiance ? en qui n'ai-je pas confiance" ou "à quoi dois-je dire non ?".... ou pour la carte de la Tempérance "dans quel domaine de votre vie avez-vous en ce moment fluidité et harmonie ?" ou "qu'est-ce qui vous apporte paix intérieure ?"... Et puis bien entendu, quelques exemples d'associations de cartes. Un livre hyper complet me concernant et que je rachèterais en version papier pour peu qu'il sorte en français !

Este es un libro muy práctico que de forma fácil te va a ayudar a ubicar cada una de las cartas de acuerdo a diferentes áreas, como: personalidad, trabajo, salud, etc. Biddy va directo a lo más importante de cada uno de los arcanos, haciéndolo fácil de comprender y motivando a que la intuición despierte. Lo recomiendo muchísimo si estás comenzando o ya tienes alguna experiencia previa con el Tarot, sobre todo si estás buscando una perspectiva práctica de la lectura de Tarot.
