No they do not chime. The mushrooms are all one piece.

Why do mine look more depressed than I feel???

I thought they were quite pretty although would have liked longer stems to display more among low lying flowers in border.

Has anyone figured out how the soil moisture testing part works with these mushrooms? I presume that is is why the stem is porous.

I assume that water rises up the stem by capillary action. If the ground is very dry there will be no indicatoon on the stem but if it is moist you will see the stems turn a darker shade.

How high are they pls?

Not sure but about 6 inches - not very tall !
