For electric tetra filters these crystal filters/inserts slot in easily and are easy to change. They don’t need changing lots and lots because they are off a good standard. I at times take this filter out and wash it through to help it last longer as dirt or food not eaten by fish can get caught in the machine around this filter and need washing away to prolong filter life. Another helpful tip would be for fish that need tap safe. When cleaning the fish tank or when changing filter I put some drops off tap safe on the filter too especially if topping up water after clear out. This keeps it in circulation and ensures safety for the fish. I have 7 fish and have had them nearly 2 years and have learnt from a family member who has been a great fish owner. The filter itself is great water is looking very clean meaning less changing and the electric filters they sit in are not noisy but if anything relaxing due to the water flow sounds but no machine noises. They also come individually wrapped.

Fish is dead now but these were the go-to ones we bought. They worked perfectry. Especially when someone over-feeds the fish so the filter had to do a lot of work.

Well worth the expense. Does the job and keeps the tank as it should be.

I have a couple of aquariums and one of them has a filter which uses the Tetra C250/300 filter elements. These filter elements contain some activated carbon which helps keep the water clearer, all wrapped in two different filter media. The white side should face the water in flow and is designed to capture larger waste and the green side is on the water out flow and is there to capture the finer particles. Overall they do a very good job of filtering the water to remove waste particles and also to chemically filter the water (using the carbon) to give a cleaner healthier aquarium. Tetra recommend replacing these cartridges every 4 weeks but I have found they are effective in my aquarium for up to 6-8 weeks (I do monitor the chemical levels in between too in case the filters need replacing sooner). The description does say the filter can be replaced without getting your hands wet Not quite true as I do find some water flows over the top of the filter sometimes but it is certainly less messy than those filters were you have to wash out the filter media etc. The biggest downside to these filters though is you are replacing a lot of filter media in one go so the biological balance of the aquarium could be upset. This is one of the reasons I am so careful about checking the chemical levels, especially in the few days following media changes. Overall I would recommend these to anyone with C250 or C300 filters who does not need media without carbon (sometimes you need carbon free media when treating fish etc). The current Amazon pricing is also very competitive compared to the prices a 6 months ago when I last purchased it.
