StarTech USB32000SPT USB 3 2 PORT GIGABIT ETHERNET LAN ADAPTER - 10/100/1000 - (Enterprise Computing > Network Cards & Adapters)

Despite what a previous reviewer stated, this device works just fine for link aggregation at near full speed. Link aggregation works by apportioning traffic to multiple destinations to different ports of the aggregated link based on a hash of the destination MAC and IP addresses, so traffic to two destinations could each use a different port and get the full speed of that port. It provides no throughput benefit for a single destination host. To properly test throughput over all ports of the aggregated link, you need to send traffic to two or more destination addresses at the same time. I ran such a test using iperf3 to two destinations with consecutive IP addresses (10.0.1.90, 10.0.1.91), but it still used only one port according to traffic counters on my switch, resulting in only about 460Mbps throughput to each host. When I changed the destination host's address from .91 to .92, this resulted in test traffic going via separate ports and I got close to full speed through both ports simultaneously: 110 MB/sec or 920Mbits/sec. Link aggregation was working as expected. The USB3 gigabit chips used in this adapter are ASIX AX88179, which are well supported by Linux. Whether using link aggregation or not, this is a useful adapter to have.

Five Stars! Connected immediately within Windows 8.1. For those who are interested, the adapter does allow paired connections, and the performance is very good. Test setup: Laptop with the USB3 adapter connected via a Netgear gigabit switch to Windows 8.1 PC with dual Intel NICs, each computer using two network cables. After pre-copying a large (10GB) file so that it was cached into memory on the laptop; copying to the PC via the dual link achieved sustained 186MB/s (copy dialog) with balanced loads of 80% utilization (task manager) for each of the two Ethernet circuits. Using a single Ethernet cable gigabit saturation (98%+) was easily achieved. Other scenarios would get different results.

Works just as advertised, doesn't need any extra drivers under linux (Ubuntu 15.10). Does auto crossover and can be used as a bridge (like a network TAP) and works in a USB 2.0 port. Not tried testing the throughput, but it's good enough for what I need.

As my headline suggests this will work and works well for for connecting you a 1Gbps to a single network or 1Gbps to another network. However it doesn't work for link aggregation. I have tested this in all 4 possible combinations: Link aggregation setup on the switch + Link aggregation setup in windows Link aggregation setup on the switch + No link aggregation setup in windows No link aggregation setup on the switch + Link aggregation setup in windows No link aggregation setup on the switch + No link aggregation setup in windows Each time pulling files from 2 different network locations which has throughput of more than 2Gbps connectivity it will only pull single or dual files at a total of 1Gbps (110MB/sec). So don't buy if you are looking to double your speed but if you want to connect to more than 1 network at once with Ethernet it's great.

Not the cheapest but certainly no complaints so far. Easy to install, USB 3 port works and there are two ethernet ports. All in all it allows my laptop to have 3 ethernet ports which is what I need. Based on current experience no hesitation in recommending it.

Fabulous device. Works perfectly with pfSense. Has USB 3 passthrough so an additional USB 3 device can be added. great if you only have one USB 3 port (which I had). Just brilliant!

Bought 2. Running on two HP DL20 G9's with ESXi 6. Needs the VIB from VirtuallyGhetto (Google it) but takes 2 minutes and a reboot, a cracking setup - I now have 4 x 1Gbs NICs. Supports LACP, Jumbo Frames (4000k max, not 9500k), fast, - 2 x 1Gbs will in no way flood a USB 3.0 port running at 5Gbs. Very happy bunny. And its on Prime.

Bought this for my Raspberry Pi 4, but it sabsolutely useless - official StarTech driver won't install, so it won't work. Looking into the details it turns out they support 'Linux Kernel 2.6.25 to 4.11.x LTS Versions only', which basically means they don't support any Linux distro released since July 2017 (when 4.12.x came out). Falsely sold as compatible with Linux in my opinion.

I had purchased a Cable Matters USB3.0 to RJ45 Gigabit Network Adapter and it worked Great for Windows 10 and I thought it might work for 2012R2. I contacted cable matters and they said it would work. It did not. I looked into this Star Tech USB3.0 to Dual Port Gigabit and it also said it worked for Windows 10 but did not say it would work for Server 2012R2. I left a message for Star Tech and they said it would work so purchased it. Just received it today and plugged it in on my Server 2012R2 and it worked without using the disk. The system found the driver and installed it automatically. I ran a network speed test on the star tech USB 30 to Ethernet vs a gigabit lan network connection to the internet thru Comcast and got similar connection speeds with both. The only downfall is the size of the adapter as you need room for 2 lan connections

While the vendor provided five pages of documentation, it does not contain the necessary information for a regular user to setup or troubleshoot the adapter.
