Battery operated, but not motorised.
As always with Brio products, this demands a high price tag - but that’s due to its high quality and durability - which then provides ‘value for money’ As a stand alone set it’s enough to keep the youngest ones entertained, but I’m guessing this is probably an add on to your existing set, which will add another level of play ideas. Firstly - the bad (ish) points: -It’s not motorised as promo videos would have you believe - yes it uses batteries, but that’s just for the sound and light functions that operate when you push it along (or use a motorised train to push from behind). I don’t see this a huge negative, as it will obviously require interaction with your child (or yourself), rather than them watching a motorised train going around the track by itself. But just be warned that the promo videos and videos on popular video based websites may have you believe it is a fully motorised train. - When delivered the product was clearly visible, so if it’s a gift for a child - maybe best they aren’t around when it gets delivered. Again, this isn’t exactly a downside - it’s great for the environment as it’s one less cardboard box for recycling, but I suppose it’s just a little warning in case your little one is around. So far our three year old is more interested in the trains and track rather than the play features offered by the platform (such as opening and closing doors, and having people wait on the platform). But I’m sure as ages a little, these additional features will provide an extra stimulus. As with the vast majority of Brio branded toys, this is a great little set, it would be good as a starter set, and it’s really good as an expansion set, and going on past reputation - I’m sure it will last for years to come.

Highly recommmend
The BRIO Tube Train is a fantastic little model with great build quality and that classic BRIO charm. The smooth magnetic couplings, sturdy wooden base, and bright, modern design make it instantly appealing to my little one. It glides beautifully on the tracks and feels durable enough. One happy little boy

Excellent to add to existing wooden train set
I purchased this brio metro railway as a gift for my 5 year old son who loves wooden trains. I was sceptical of this set being at nearly £55 full price, but the set did on photos look impressive. I came across a Beales store that had the set out for kids to play with and I was impressed seeing it in person. I noticed it came down in price to £33 and I felt that was better value. Track wise there are only 9 pieces, one being a buffer, 1 a split track piece and 7 long curved track pieces. Also there is a little map, ticket machine, man, woman, suitcase, two car train with sounds, closed metro tunnel and open metro tunnel with working entrance doors for the little people. Personally, I don't think it bodes well on its own, but I purchased it to go along with the mass of wooden train sets we have at home. My son likes the variety of stations, bridges etc. I felt this really added something special to the set as the train stations are good quality (but plastic) and was just what our set needed (as ours was mostly industrial or classic train scenery themed). The sounds and lights on the train are an excellent touch. At £55 I don't think I would have bothered but at £33 I am impressed with the value. My only downside to this set, along with many others Brio has been releasing recently is that there is an awful lot of plastic. I feel the classic wooden train sets are better as wooden train sets. These pieces could have been made out of wood and its upsetting to see that the cheaper production method is being used on these. Nevertheless, its a nice addition to the set and my son loves it. It is big enough to have it as a set on its own, (the box is rather large as well) and while it doesn't have a lot of diversity you could add a little more track to make it more interesting than a large circle. I feel its ideal to add to a collection. Great fun and lovely set!

Good looking toy
My son loves his present but I have few concerns. Actually it is not wooden train set because wooden there are only tracks and ticket stands. Everything else is plastic including trains. You can easily lift cabin roofs to put in passengers but you need to close them slowly and gently otherwise it pops open again and my little boy gets very frustrated because of that. Well, he is only two years old and this is a toy for +36 months so I can blame only myself. Trains lights are hardly noticeable in dayligh and sound is something similar vacumcleaner's sound not train but I suppose kids don't mind. Also train must be pushed it does not go for itself. The last concerns I have are for a tunel and station. As they are from plastic I always have to make sure it is on top of my son's trains' box simply because it might get smashed under the weight of wooden tracks. Call me old-fashioned but I like good quality wooden toys made for generations.

... christmas present for my nephew last year and he loved it!
Bought as christmas present for my nephew last year and he loved it!! wont put it away for weeks and weeks. very sturdy and might be a good idea to buy more tracks at some point as he's now got bored of same tracks over and over - nothing to do with the product, just the usual with kids as they get bored easily. 5 out 5 for an entertaining, sturdy play set

Good Quality Train Set
We brought this Brio set for our son. He absolutely loves it. Being Brio the quality of all the components is first class. The track is excellent, and the tunnel, station and train are sturdy and durable. When the train is pushed forward the 3 LEDs on the front light up, and it makes a sound. It's powered by 2 x LR44 button batteries. My only complaint is the batteries don't last very long at all. With an average amount of play they only last 2 weeks. But overall, my son loves this toy continues to have hours of fun with it.

My son wanted this for Christmas and even though he already had tons of trains and train tracks we decided to get it. It’s very well made and we loved it. He was so happy.

Pas de lumière ni de bruitage car les piles fournies sont plates. Très déçue vu le prix élevé de cette marque de train en bois pour un métro Brio comprenant peu de pièces !
