A very good 'Basic' Computer.
I've just fitted my sixth Velo 9 to one of my bikes, so now all my bikes have one fitted. This last one was to replace a Cateye wireless computer I bought because it promised easier setting up and a cleaner look, there being no wires trailing about. It was a success on both counts. Less successful was when using my front light - the computer didn't work at all as presumably the light interrupted the signal. Then it stopped reading over 20 mph, so I just went ahead and replaced it with something I know works very well indeed - the Cateye Velo 9. Yes it's basic, but if like me all you really want to know is how far places are and your odo for each bike then this fits the bill. They seem pretty accurate speed and distance wise and are a doddle to programme in, including the wheel/tyre size. The only part I'd question would be the accuracy of the calory counter, but that's no biggie. On the whole then, I like these computers a lot!

No Connectivity Problems!
I have bought 2 of these for my bikes, after having been IRRITATED by mid-ride drop-outs from cheap wireless other-make units. Some reviews have criticised the nylon zip-ties used to install them, but don't come up with anything decent alternative. I have been using wired, zip-tied other-make units since the early 1980s and have NEVER found fault with the system. Think about it - if you want a wired system, you need wires! So - live with it. Learn to make a neat job of the installation - it's not rocket science. The display is nice and clear, the instructions for setting up are NOT difficult to comprehend and, in spite of at least one complaint about there being 3 buttons, not 1, there is only 1 button to be used during a ride - for example, to change the secondary display from the time of day to, say, the distance covered. Otherwise, the unit recognises stopping and starting automatically and the only other reason to press that single, big button on the front is to reset the ride data to zero before setting off on another ride. The current speed is always shown in the top, larger, part of the display. The other 2 buttons are tiny ones on the back of the unit and are only accessed when setting up or changing some settings. A ball-point pen is used to press them. The only improvement I can suggest is dumping the "calories" and "CO2" readings as they are crude and inaccurate as there is no accounting for the cyclist's weight etc. This would be better replaced with a "Scan" setting, whereby the unit cycles through the immediate ride readings such as time/distance/average speed/maximum speed. In conclusion, I thoroughly recommend the unit.

Easy to use and accurate
Very nifty little device if you don't want a full fledged Garmin or similar. Seems very accurate and is very easy to use. Shows the time, tracks speed on top and underneath you can choose between different stats. Distance, AVG speed, Elapsed Time, Max Speed, ODO, c02 offset and calories burnt (does not factor in your weight). If you do longer rides often the battery would probably last 1-2 years and is a standard button battery you can buy for cheap anywhere. easy to install, just hook up the sensor to your fork, use the zip ties & sticky pads to attack the stem, put the magnet onto your spoke and off you go. The unit is also removable from the base, so you can take it with you so it doesn't get stolen! I will be using this until I get a Garmin :D

Great stuff
I was undecided between this & the wireless version, but opted for the cheaper version. I figured the wireless option could be susceptible to going wrong or being inaccurate. Whether I am correct about this or not, I will never know. All I can say is that after 6 months using this, I have no issues whatsoever. Easy to set up & it's worth taking the time to get the wiring neat & tidy There are enough menu options for me. Some other cycle computers come with more options, but to me they are nothing more than a gimmick & only really needed if you are a serious cyclist. Excellent value, easy to use & easily removed when not in use.

Great little computer but the cable is short
Great little computer but the cable is short. I like things in life that are simple and this cycle computer ticks that box, big-style. Accurate, useable, waterproof - and easy to fit. I knocked a star off because the cable is very short, meaning you HAVE to fit it to your front wheel. Why would you want to fit it to the rear wheel, I hear you ask? Well, if you’re using a turbo trainer and wanted to know your mileage, time, calories burned etc, you would need to fit it to the back wheel, as the front is stationary - but the cable can’t reach to the handlebars from there. So front wheel only it is. Works a treat, though.

Works well indoor and outdoor
Bought this 4 years ago and it's still working. I originally bought it to put on my bike while it was indoors on a set of magnetic rollers. I've since changed my bike back to outside use and it works fine. I'm only really interested in distance covered and how long it takes me, but it also tells me my average speed, distance travelled to date, it has a clock and calorie counter. I don't think I've changed the battery yet in all the time I've had it, it automatically goes into sleep mode when not in use. I had to make a slight modification on my bike for the stationary sensor to work which entailed me using masking tape to tape a felt tip marker pen to the inside of the frame of my bike for the sensor to attach to. Only because my bike is more of a leisure bike and not a racer so the frame is further away from the wheel, but it works fine and has done for well over 4 years.

Clear display, easy to use. Ideal for the tech averse.
I'm no Stravaneer, don't want to know how fast my feet are flailing nor how fast my heart is revving, I basically just want to know how far places are and how far/long I've ridden. I've got two of these Cat Eye Velo 9 computers, and a Velo 7 on my bikes, and they all work very well for my needs. Large and clear display is easy to read, and setting it up is straightforward. This latest purchase was for a fat bike, and the included tyre settings chart didn't include such an oddball wheel and tyre combo. But, it's easy enough to measure one rotation of the wheel along the ground and manually input that figure. Battery life seems good so far, the Velo 7 is still on its original battery after about two years. This Velo 9 computer also records calories burned (how accurate that figure will be is anyone's guess but still...) and how many carbon thingies or Penguins have been saved, by not taking a car presumably, so you can feel all smug. A simple and straightforward computer for those of us who don't want to hook our bikes up to satellites or spend hours examining data every time we go for a ride,

Small, easy to setup
Easy to setup and use. Hopefully battery life will be good but too soon to say as I only just got it. Small with a clear screen to see current speed and other information.

Cateye quality that works well at a bargain price
I wanted a hard wired, simple, and easy to read cycling computer to replace a different brand wireless that had fallen off after a few months. I was somewhat confused by the variation in pricing (2x) for the Velo9 on Amazon, but decided to try the least expensive one, and take a chance. It turned out to be a good decision. The Velo9 from this vendor arrived 2 days before products ordered at the same time and shipped by Amazon. It was complete with several pages of instructions. The installation instructions were decent, and in multiple languages. It also showed that there were three different mounts for the computer, and on the least expensive version I had it was the simplest. It appears to be mounted securely with zip ties allowing for flexibility of positions. Using YouTube videos saved some time particularly on the set-up. The set and clear buttons are on the back of the unit are poorly labeled, and the videos helped locate them and when to use them. I have not had the unit but for a few days, so cannot speak to the durability. Very pleased so far.
