RAPESCO TD9600A1 Germ-Savvy Antibacterial 960 Packing Tape Dispenser

Product seems very sturdy and would probably be perfectly suitable for situations where taping many boxes would be required. It's largely a metal construction with some good solid plastic parts in the places you'd expect e.g. the handle. Not exactly sure what the issues are with reviewers having difficulty setting it up. There are clear 4 step picture instructions printed on the box and it also says the website you can visit to read the written instructions, should they be needed. Maybe the packaging was different before? (Either that or people just didn't look hard enough). Even without instructions it's still a fairly simple and easy thing to set up - it's just a matter of pushing the roll of tape onto the spinny thing at the rear and then pulling the tape strip under the roller at the front. From there it is pretty much ready to go and how easily the tape dispenses can be adjusted as needed by turning the tensioning wheel. Blades seem to cut well most of the time and after a few practice goes to get the hang of it I had no issues completely resealing the box it came in within seconds. Overall I found this to be quite an enjoyable packaging tool, it's far less tedious than just using scissors. The end of the tape is never lost and it can be operated easily with one hand.

Good quality item,works well

instead of finding scissors to awkwardly cut some sellotape, use this to quickly and easily dispense tape when needed. Was great for the Christmas presents. I regularly use it to seal cooked meat back into the packaging and back into the fridge for a later time. Proving handy in the kitchen. You may also need to send out the odd parcel or box and the handle makes it ergonomic to break off tape with one hand... Of course where it will really shine is in a warehouse environment where boxes are abound, on goods inwards, checking the accuracy and type of stock, ready for pickers and then distribution out into the world You might want it if you're moving house, to make up some flat pack boxes. Overall I think it's a great tool to have and better than a desk dispenser. The days of trying to find the edge of stuck down sellotape are truly over. It's fairly priced and relatively sturdy enough to be trustworthy for it's intended use. You won't regret having one.

This item is a 'must have' when there's packing to be done. Good value for money. It's easy to use once you 'get the knack'

Bought this as I've been selling alot of my old used items on eBay and was getting fed up of manually tearing lots of packaging tape. The dispenser has a nice weight and feel to it, giving it a good quality feel. Loading the tape onto the wheel is easy. Feeding it through the bottom mechanism is a little bit fiddly. The teeth on the cutter are very sharp and do help cut the tape. However, I have found that in the majority of instance that I use it, the tape seems to veer off centre causing the tape to become creased. I have also found in most cases, when cutting the tape, the cut isn't always clean, it is always jagged and in most cases pulls at the tape leaving an horrible looking finished edge on the package. Would I buy it again... at the £7, I paid for it, possibly yes. But I'm hoping this one will last many years to come and I won't have to.

Very good product for price

Not having any other packaging device that is Germ-Savvy and Antibacterial, I can't comment on the validity of this interesting characteristic. As a single-handed packaging tape dispenser, it is fairly good. Better than the predecessor, which had tape reels that self detached. This one, the tape stays on. However, the tape is difficult to start single handed because the end of the tape is loose and needs to be swiped onto the box being taped. In addition there is a little plastic guard for the cutting blade, and this has nowhere to keep when not in place; it is quite small, and black, about the size of a wire hair grip. I found that this dispenser is difficult to load due to tension in sprung components of the dispenser. Desk dispensers are very much easier by comparison, but not single handed. Unlike other users, I have not had any difficulty with getting the tape to stick and remain stuck except when initiating the taping - after tapping the tape against the parcel, the tape does not always stick sufficiently well to overcome the resistance to unwinding from the reel and passing through the slit aperture. This tape and dispenser combination is probably the best of the ones available and my 4 stars is not a reason to disregard it; I don't think any of them are worth five stars, except for an electric one we had once. For the price, this is good. As a germ killing intelligent dispenser, I reserve judgement.

Updating this after using it for a few weeks … it’s not all bad, there is a bit of a knack to it. If the box is flimsy it’s no good at all but if you’ve a sturdy box then it works well although when you cut it it doesn’t always line up well for the next ‘roll’. I’m increasing the stars to 3 :D Very poor instructions for loading tape, nothing on website, when I finally found instructions on YouTube (for a different brand but similar product) still wasn’t fit for purpose. I bought it for assembling packing boxes for moving but you need to apply a certain amount of pressure to make it roll smoothly and obviously the boxes, when empty, cannot take this. Would not recommend at all, quicker to just use a scissors and unroll the tape manually

That is one technology that needs improving, where are you, innovators? Anyway, the beauty of normal plastic type of dispensers is that the loose end is nicely stuck to the bottom of the cutting bar. So you pick it up, unstick it and start using it. In this one, a good piece of the loose end is flying in the wind sticking to anything and everything including on itself. It might not be the issue at the packing factory floor, when the dispenser is continuously used. However, for home use, get yourself a much cheaper and much more practical plastic office type dispenser.
