i want to use this to date chicken eggs, will this work or will it break the shell??

The ink pad is good and stays effective and the action is light so it shouldn't break the shell.But as you have to press to get the stamp to swivel I'm not sure how easy IIT will be to get full contact with the curved surface of the egg.

Has anyone found refill ink pads for this?

Sadly, no. However what I did was to buy a bottle of ink pad refill, remove the pad that comes with it, recharge it and replace the pad.

Do you have to rock this to get it to print all the date on an egg. Mine either misses the start or end because of the curvature of the egg?!

We wouldn't recommend the self-inking date stamps for stamping onto eggs, one to be used with a separate ink pad is much better. You will need the date stamp, a dry pad and egg ink and solvent.
