Seems like an outdated thing to have (once common everywhere) but if you ever see a few bottles of thick cream on the reduced shelf at your local supermarket you will soo understand how with a bit of cheesecloth (or a clean plastic mesh fruit bag) & a table top mixer plus plenty of tough containers you can get the cream & the buttermilk separated, squeeze out the worst of the excess under cold water, & chill it all before taking your pats out to get rid of the excess without using hands (HEAT, lots of it) to shape & form butter ready to freeze for later / chill & consume. As we are in the uk, "slightly salted butter" is normal here, so don't forget to look up what is needed per block to blend & shape. I held off buying a set until the price came down, even in my local "the range" which tends to stock kilner products this was about £12-14 (HA) but hit buy when these simple bits of wood churned out on the cheap hit £7 ..you still have to put the effort in but it is another skill to learn in the kitchen & butter is not cheap these days. (NB, these were sold in a pair by kilner, but if you look on ali express etc, then expect to be sold them as singles & considerably more expensive) The other use? making your own gnocchi for the gently applied markings to the portioned & cut potato, egg & flour mix for that professional touch.

My husband has taken to making our own butter, & was using his hands to form the butter into an appropriate shape & size to fit our butter dish, but the heat from his hands during the formation would make the butter challenging to shape. I bought these for my husband to try out as they looked good & were reasonably priced, & I wasn't sure if he would like my idea or not. I am pleased to say he loves using them, & in his own words 'they make the butter pat look far more professional now'. A quick wash wish hot soapy water, preferably under a running tap - set them aside to dry naturally...done!

These are nice butter paddles. Perfect size and saves your butter from getting warmed up in your hands. I find it easier to add whatever I’m adding to my butter and mix in using these paddles.

I love these paddles, they perfectly squeeze the extra butter milk off from my butter after churning.
