this product is sturdy and a good quality. It fits neatly into the door lock and my elderly mother finds it very useful for helping her get out of the car. It has a range of other gadgets such as a flashing light, window breaker and seatbelt cutter. So it is not just a mobility aid, but it’s useful for any driver, very pleased with the product.

I was dubious as with most shopping Channel products. I'm in my mid 40s and disabled due to my back I'm getting in and out of the car is a massive ordeal for me. So I thought I would give it a try and I cannot believe how much this is helping me just to get in and out of cars, as different cars are used by different members of my family to take me to and from appointments. It fits steadily and gives a perfect great to aid you getting in or out. There is a torch if needed, they say fit in section but that will cut the seatbelt if you were trapped, and it will break the glass if you ever needed someone to get you out of the car in the emergency if the doors were locked. I thought it would be really heavy but it's actually really light. I've got my parents to buy one each now and I highly recommend this to anyone who needs help to get in or out of the car, it's fantastic.

Not universal it can only be used in a few cars

I bought this to help my 90-year old mother get in and out of our very low-slung Passat estate. Previously she needed to be pulled up out of the seat, which was a real struggle. This tool makes the task very easy. But since then, my wife has developed back pain and sciatica, making it hard for her to get in and out of the car. This car cane makes it much easier for her, and is small enough to keep in the door pocket. It has proved so invaluable we now have two in the car - one in the front and one in the back. It slips into the U-shaped bracket on the car door frame - the same bracket into which the door lock engages when the door is closed. The bracket is very strong and this tool takes advantage of that strength by providing a leverage point with which to hoist yourself up. It is substantially made, lightweight and comfortable to use. It also includes a blade to cut the seat belt in an emergency. The blade is protected so you can't touch it. It has another use too. If you are involved in an accident and your car becomes submerged underwater you can use the tool to smash a window. Without it you will probably drown! It is small enough to store in the glove-box. Highly recommended.

I'm always very suspicious of daytime TV ads, but this did seem a good idea, with many positive reviews. So I bought one for my Dad (88) who, in his own eyes - like many of his age & life experience - is not old; that's something that happens to other people. Fortunately, he's a sucker for a torch & this gadget has a nifty little LED one - so he didn't need much persuading. Then he found it has a seatbelt cutter & window smasher - and suddenly realised he can't live without either one - although I seriously doubt his ability to use them in an emergency situation! But all these extras made it a much more interesting toy to him, so he was very happy to give it the actual handle feature a go - with great success. It fits perfectly on his Toyota Verso & it now seems I've given myself another job as official fitter/unfitter of his 'new best friend'. So that went well - phew! If only Stannah would fit torches to their stairlifts, I might not have such a hard time persuading him about that one...
