Easy read - prompt delivery

Just loved this absolute beginners little book. It's easy to read, clear on the examples and have nice, good quality pictures on hand position and cords. I can't wait to start practising on my Ukelele! Thank you for prompt delivery too. 100% recommended.

Please read this carefully before buying

I have no connection to the supplier. To start with - this is a good book for the absolute beginner. The downside - it’s a bit junior school. If you already play a fretted instrument, you don’t need this. Once you are tuned up, you can work out ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’ for yourself. And a book of ukulele chords is not hard to find. But if you want to start from scratch, or kickstart someone, it’s good stuff.

Great for beginners

Very comprehensive explanation. I found it useful learning to play the individual fretted notes as well as simple chords. There is a very handy list of chords at back of book.Useful to dip into, but you really need more chord music to get going.

Brilliant!

What a brilliant book! Easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. After 1 session I already felt like I had achieved something, and after only 4 short sessions I really feel like I'm on the way to being able to say 'I play the ukulele'! I am just about to search for Level 2. Ben Parker has really understood what a total beginner needs. Exactly what I wanted.

Very difficult to view tablature on Kindle.

The 3 star rating is not down to content, but because of bad formatting for Kindle. Kindle screens are a lot smaller than the paperback book this is designed for - I know, an obvious comment. However, although obvious, it doesn't seem to have been taken into consideration when formatting this book for Kindle. The ABSOLUTE WORST example of this is the tablature, which is very tiny even on my PC, which is considerably bigger than my kindle screen. This could be easily rectified if the TAB had been enlarged to fit the whole screen, but it only takes up a 3rd of the screen, making it very small. Text on a kindle can be enlarged, but there is no function for zooming things in a picture format. The book itself is a good, fairly standard learning book. It does use traditional music notation, alongside TAB. However, you don't necessarily need to understand the music to play the TAB. In fact, as someone who reads music, I tried to ignore it, as I need to learn the TAB and how to play Ukulele, not how to read music. However, I did find it useful for songs I didn't know, as it enabled me to check I was playing it correctly.I think someone who doesn't read music would still be able to use this book using the tablature alone. It starts by teaching simple tunes, then progresses to chords with strumming patterns, then finger-picking, scales going higher up the fretboard, duets and bar chords. It also has lots of useful info along the way, including chord charts at the back of the book.

Great for beginners!!!

I am learning the ukele (aged 45) alongside my 8 yr old son. He can't read music, I can but this won't hold you back because all chords are shown at the back of the book and the melodies are simple to follow. An excellent basic book, highly recommended. Contains that well-known classic "twinkle twinkle...." so younger players get a real sense of achievement early on. Well done, Mr Parker.

Good beginners book.

The only thing missing in this book for me, is a run down on all of the notes and which string and fret to find them on the tab or Like the chords chart.

Great for beginners

I bought this ebook as an introduction to learning the uke. It has great explanations and some photos to help guide. The only downside I have found so far is that it is a bit tricky to read the music/frets , even when enlarged on the Kindle screen. I think I am just used to having a music book that you can flick back and forwards through.

Playing chords and reading music first day using book!

I've wanted to play a musical instrument my whole life, but being dyslexic I found learning one impossible and reading music even impossibler. My elementary school tried to teach me the glockenspiel, my patents hired a piano tutor for me, my cousins are all music teachers and they tried to teach me the ukelele (almost 10 years ago). Nothing took, not even a little. Hopeless. Now I know this book is geared towards younger readers, but I figured that as a remedial adult I might as well start simple. I'm so glad I got this book!I received this book and a ukelele in the mail today, and this night I'm strumming twinkle twinkle little star and Yankee doodle dandy and out in the fields. Which doesn't sound like much, but it's just the first day! And what's more I'm reading it off in musical notation and translating it into the correct chords on the instrument! I never thought I'd be able to learn musical notation. This book breaks everything down into super simple steps and gives you easy exercises for each step. Perhaps most importantly it explains things really clearly, both in the text as well as with many helpful illustrations on each page.True true, a 10 year old could probably use this book. But it's clear and has a lot of info, and most importantly it works. But it's really for absolute beginners, so if you already have an idea how to play chords on the ukelele you'll probably want something more advanced.I'm so happy I'm tearing up. A hundred stars!
