Not amazing, but pretty good.
I'm really quite hesitant about writing this review. When I bought the product I really wanted to love it because it was a Bodum and you always hear nothing but good things. Let's backtrack a bit... I started getting into nice coffee probably around a year ago. I've always just drank the instant stuff, but having tried a proper cup of the brown gold my hearts been yearning for something a bit more special. I had a conversation with a fellow coffee-drinking friend and he recommended I try a french press. Intrigued, I nipped to Sainsburys and bought a cheap french press. I must admit, it actually wasn't a bad wee job at all. Plastic in materials, but ultimately produced nicer coffee than any instant I've ever tried. So yes, one day I dropped it and it shattered. A part of me was secretly delighted for I've been eyeing up a Bodum press for a while. I went straight to Amazon and placed my order for the Bodum Chambord (the very one being reviewed). Once it arrived, I excitedly (yet carefully) removed the item from the packaging. Wow - she's a beaut. The materials appear to be very sturdy and of a high quality. A very stylish addition to any kitchen countertop. Now onto the coffee. The coffee turned out absolutely delicious. I'm not going to lie - I expected nothing less. Ultimately this is a great french press. It looks the part. It appears to be well made and produces lovely coffee. So why only 4 stars? Well, within the first 1-2 weeks of ownership, I noticed a slight change in how the lid fit over the glass. At first, it was nice and snug, creating a secure seal and kept the coffee extra hot for a reasonable amount of time as it brew. But after those initial few break-in weeks, the lid no longer gave that secure fit. Now it just sort of sits loosely. You could almost say it's just hanging there. The lid is on, but it's not sitting tight with the glass. Does this affect the quality of the coffee? I'd say it does a bit, but not tremendously. It still makes a really good cup of coffee, but it's never really proper hot once poured. Normally I'll give it a blast in the microwave after just to bring it up to scratch. Still, 4 stars for a good wee french press!

Nice quality press for lovers of good coffee
Fantastic price - hardly anymore than a replacement glass. Very nice press that makes good coffee and looks the part. The glass is very tight (cannot remove it) but thats not really an issue and is certainly better than it falling out when pouring. Overall I would highly recommend, far better than cheap unknown brands as it really seals the grouts in so that you can drink the cup right to the end. Perfecto

It pours accurately!
Back story: Yesterday we bought some ground coffee from Costco that had rave reviews, but remembered we no longer had a cafetiere after our clear-out of frustrating belongings before moving house. (The cafetiere we dismissed was from Sainsburys about 8 years ago. It looked nice, but the spout was so rounded that so much coffee was wasted with it being impossible not to pour without it dribbling down the cafetiere - this also meant always having to pour drinks over the sink. Back to yesterday: The Costco we were in didn't sell cafetieres, and being a Sunday, other shops were soon closing. So, remembering the amazing Amazon delivery service, I searched for the cafetiere with most and best reviews. Today: It arrived in time to wash it up for making after-lunch coffees, all in tact and well-protected in the packaging. Easy to wash, looks smart, and more importantly pours accurately! The cafetiere recommends using course-ground coffee, and the coffee we bought yesterday is fairly fine, but had no problem with it getting blocked or with granules passing through. I hope this lasts us many years!

Bodum 1928-16 Chambord cafetiere
This is a superb cafetiere, to replace one broken when it struck a knife, after many years' service. All fittings seem the same as original except for the knob on the lid but the body frame, handle and plunger seem as sturdy as before. Very satisfied to have this quality replacement at a reasonable price, delivered quickly and welll packed. If it lasts as long as its predecessor, we'll not complain !

Authentic french press -
This is an authentic french press. It makes great coffee if you know how to use it. (There's s lot of videos on YouTube if you don't). Easy to clean. Capacity for 2/3 mugs and 5/6 cups. Very happy with my purchase.

It's sort of hard to explain what makes the Chambord the de-facto modern french press. It makes good coffee, but then again, of course it does: It's a glass container you put ground coffee and water into. We figured out these things 200 years ago, it's not rocket science. What makes the Chambord special is everything involved in the process of using it. Parts are good quality; they're durable and feel good to handle. If anything does break, finding replacements is easy and not very expensive. The assembly is extremely modular too, meaning it's easy to clean thoroughly and you probably won't have to worry about it gunking up over years of use. It lacks the amenities some other brewers will try to sell you on, such as advanced filtering systems or quick cleaning methods, but in my opinion these gimicks rank from unnecessary to actively detrimental. The Chambord is the french press the same way we've been doing it for the last 200 years, and it works just fine. There's also something to be said for the way it looks. It might sound silly, but this is something that's presumably going to be out on your kitchen counter every day, so it should matter if you like looking at it, and I think the design of the Chambord is the sort of classy that doesn't age. When I make coffee in the mornings, I place it on my counter, and the way the sun hits the glass makes my coffee look so good, I'm almost certain contributes to it tasting better once it's in my cup. Again, it sounds silly, but I think that alone is enough of a reason to spend the tiny bit more than it costs compared to other brewers. Can't go wrong with a french press. Can't go wrong with the Chambord. It just works.
